Daily Inspiration: Meet Kassy Lemus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kassy Lemus.

Hi Kassy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I graduated from beauty school in 2018 before becoming an apprentice for about a year! I started taking clients in late 2019 and made a big move to have my own suite in 2020. During my time after graduating, I’ve worked along side amazing professionals, I’ve become an Ambassador for an education platform called Masters of Balayage, and I was a nominee for The One Shot Awards (a global hair competition created by another platform called Behind the Chair.)

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It had its ups and downs. The most challenging part was the COVID Pandemic creating unexpected changes. However, it helped push me to become self-employed, which was the best decision I made!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in the technique called Balayage or “Natural, Lived-In Hair Color” for brunettes with long, thick, hair. Many of my clients come to me looking for that perfect “chocolate” color that compliments their naturally dark hair. I’m very proud that this is my specialty because I have gained some of the most amazing clients! I love giving each and every one of them a personal, relaxing experience while they’re in my chair.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My biggest advice is to apprentice as a fresh Cosmetology School graduate! Do your research (it’s ok to be picky! You deserve the best education to elevate your craft!) I was once told “you get what you put in,” which is 100% true. If you want to succeed in this industry, you have to be ready to put in the work, but trust me when I say, it’s worth it!
