Exploring Life & Business with Taylor Harrell of Lively Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Harrell.

Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started Lively Company in October 2019. I was miserable millennial at my corporate job and gained over 70 pounds working 80 hours a week. My mental health was declining at an alarming rate and I knew I had to Change. I had enough. I only had $500 left in the bank and rent was due in less than two weeks. I opened up my own travel agency and won travel agency of the year award from 2019-2021 since being opened. I named my business after my baby sister, we are 21 years apart. I have multiple businesses now that cater to building the next generation of female CEOs. I saw a lot of opportunity to teach other women business skills and take them out of poverty. This is where my nonprofit was created called “ Lively Foundation” and the program is called “ Lively Emerging Leaders”. The program follows University of Texas at Austin schedule and off during the summer to strictly fundraise.  It’s been very rewarding to see many women in the program already have their first sale or first client call since the beginning of the program.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Lively Co Travel agency has had a rocky start since Covid-19 started. I had to move my travel agency all online and add new operating procedures. I was lucky enough to remain open due to my government contracts and having a good amount of people till traveling during that time. It’s been a constant reminder to practice patience, gratitude, positive attitude and just shift when its possible to keep the business afloat. Remember life is constantly changing and having a positive mindset can go a long way for you. I thank my team all the time for being by my side and working together to get through every obstacle. I’ve learned alongside with my team that we will all make mistakes because we are human and not robots. It’s having compassion, honesty and understanding is what makes my team so special.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I help women and girls start their own businesses. I have 50 women in the program and we started on August 25th, 2021. I bring in experts to speak about the many business topics such as sales, business credit and business funding. We meet virtually over Zoom and average two sessions a week for an hour a session. I’m hoping to bring in-person sessions in the future if Covid cases remain minimal.

The program “ Lively Emerging Leaders’ is set apart by teaching step by step process on how to set up an LLC for example and get your EIN number. It’s very intensive but the breakdown of the lessons is found on the website. It’s a time commitment but it is all self-paced. If you want to be done and graduated you can be done in 3-4 months. If you have another job while in this program, you can just do the program in your free time. I promote work/life balance, I don’t expect everyone to perform a certain way and very understanding that life happens. I want to see everyone in the program to be successful and being a queen that you are. Everyone deserves to be successful and happy. I want more women leaders who are beautiful inside and out and not afraid to be fierce in this world.

I’m just truly honored and privileged to be able to share my gifts and being able to teach other women to become CEOs. It’s beautiful to be a part of their business journey and finding out what their passionate about. I had limiting beliefs on if I was able to do just that. I actively work on my fears and knowing that I’m constantly growing and evolving gives me a sense of relief.

The program currently accepting applications on the website and only has a waitlist for Fall 2022-2023. Their is a $50 one-time and non-refundable application fee to save your spot. The fee goes back into funding the program.

If you want to support us in a different way, I do host monthly fundraisers at restaurants that allow fundraising in Austin. It will always be appreciated if you followed us on Instagram and our Facebook page.

How do you think about luck?
I believe in we are our own creators in this world. I don’t believe in good luck vs bad luck. You create your own life and dreams. You are in control of you. I believe what’s been beneficial to me in my life is in having a positive mindset, saying positive I am affirmations out loud and being a good person. Remember, teamwork makes the dream work. Always be thankful for your support team.
