Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Roberts.
Hi Rachel, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
I opened Flourish almost 4 years ago, with an idea of having a little neighborhood plant shop. I wanted to create a plant shop that was more of a boutique feel with a more modern look. I source planters that are not the typical styles you see in nurseries. I also curate a smaller collection of houseplants that are more unique and also on trend. I pick out all the best available plants each week, so our customers can shop a small and thoughtful collection. The idea of Flourish is to bring plants into your space as interior design + all the added benefits of living with plants.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Owning a small business can sometimes be overwhelming and there are definitely challenges. It has not always been smooth. Retail can be tricky, and I had to learn how to gage sales throughout the year to understand the busier seasons and the months that were always going to be slower. It also took a little time to really understand what was really working in terms of the products that people were consistently purchasing and was not selling.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist and designer. I received a BFA at UT in fine arts. I then began a journey in jewelry design and have run my jewelry business for over 15 years. I have sold Mingle Jewelry wholesale for many years. I have always worked in all types of design and love to design interior spaces. After working with the jewelry for so long I was ready for something more. I wanted something that I felt complimented the design aesthetic I have always loved. I still work on the jewelry in my work space in the shop.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I am a trained metal smith.
