Life & Work with Tommy “Chommy Tee” Chanthavong

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tommy “Chommy Tee” Chanthavong.

Hi Tommy “Chommy Tee”, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Being a Houston native, I’ve always wanted to see what the food community was like in other cities. I never looked in my own backyard to discover what other cities there are. Finally, I decided to shifted my audience and target a bit and ventured off to the city of Austin, TX!

I’ve always loved this city itself and it never clicked in my head to discover new restaurants here. Each visit, I come back meeting more business owners and many different restaurant establishments to eat at!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For Austin, I was afraid at first that the city wouldn’t welcome me with open arms. Reject me and not wanting to work with me as a content creator. So my fear got the best of me, but at the same time I was accepting rejection because that’s how you learn and grow. I overcame my fear and rolled with the punches.

My best advice for those who want to be an influencer is don’t be afraid of rejection, keep on going and opportunities will come knocking on your door before you know it!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As a Houston Food Blogger, I’ve learned so much so much on how to get the money shot. I love supporting small businesses and being able to leave my mark in Austin as well. The first visit in Austin, I managed to get all of the photos I took on that trip onto Best Food Austin, then obtained my Verified Contributors badge! I love hearing from business owners that business have been successful since my visit and people from Houston (my own town) stop by their restaurants to dine in and support them too. It warms my heart to see how I can impact my audience and have them support businesses who have helped me!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the vibe in Austin ~ I get so excited when I visit this city because it’s like a breath of fresh air, a restart to my content creation platform(s) and I am able to express myself and bring more diversity to my own portfolio.

What I least like about Austin: THE TRAFFIC. LOL, I thought Houston had really bad traffic, but Austin is about equally the same.

Other than that, no other dislikes.
