Rising Stars: Meet Catherine Porche

Today we’d like to introduce you to Catherine Porche.

Hi Catherine, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’d always known I wanted to work in the beauty industry in some capacity but wasn’t sure how I’d make a career down that path, so after high school, I went the traditional college route. I eventually realized I was living a life I didn’t feel passionate or inspired by, so I made the decision to go back to school- this time for nails.

Once I got started in the industry, I quickly realized there was not a salon home for me that fit all the standards I held for a place of employment. This eventually led me to opening my own private studio. I’ve been in business for about 4.5 years now and the experiences I’ve had throughout this journey have been invaluable to me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Starting out, I had zero clientele base, which is generally not recommended for beauty pros going out on their own. But I was determined to gain that freedom from salons with unethical/unsanitary practices. There were many weeks where I’d only have one or two appointments for the whole week. For the first two years in business, I worked multiple side jobs to help support me and the business while I steadily built up my clientele. I remember what a huge milestone (and relief) it was for me when I no longer HAD to keep my side jobs.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’ve built my business on natural nail health. My goal with every client is to maintain or improve the condition of their natural nails. I do this by catering each service and product selection to the individual, their goals, and their lifestyle. Some of my favorite transformations are those that come to me with very short nails, who say they can never grow them long, but we are able to grow out long and healthy nails for them.

I’ve also become known for my hand-painted nail art. I do find a lot of my newer clientele seeks me out through the art I post on social media. I would have to say that abstract/mod is definitely my favorite nail art style.
