Rising Stars: Meet Yvette Arriaga

Today we’d like to introduce you to Yvette Arriaga.

Hi Yvette, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the blogger behind The Austin Tourist, a lifestyle blog featuring fun, vibrant and eye-catching recommendations on food and fun things to do around Austin, Texas.

Growing up in a household of a motivational speaker, I was always taught that our ultimate goal in life should be to help people while living our best life. Living my best life also means that as soon as I am living up to my potential, I continue to set the bar even higher. Personally, I think having fun makes life more enjoyable for you and the people you’re close to. Live each day like it counts, but sometimes you may feel that you have lost touch with the things that can make you happy. I am here to help with that! Starting this blog has provided me with a creative outlet for my love of photography and my desire to help people. I pride myself on being a dependable person that people can trust and put faith in my recommendations.

I love being a content creator and young professional who turned her passions into an ever-growing blog that I work hard for every day. I aim to build an online presence that is welcoming, fun, helpful, and upbeat. So let me help you live a happier and better life!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been the easiest road to overcome challenges, but I meet them with confidence. One of my life favorite quotes is by Joshua J. Marines that says, “Challenges are what makes life interesting, and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” I always think about this quote when I need some inspiration when I’m in a difficult time.

A significant struggle I encountered was being new to the creator community and starting my own virtual assistant business simultaneously during covid.

I was forced to get out of my comfort zone through the many encounters I had with restaurant and small business owners. The logistics of creating my business, websites, and brand from scratch was challenging, but this has pushed me towards my goals at a rapid pace.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
When I am not running my lifestyle blog, I run a Virtual Assistant business specializing in social media services. I help Entrepreneurs free up their time to devote to other important work tasks or have more leisure time. Running a Virtual Assistant business is gratifying; I love being a business owner’s right hand to help them fulfill their dreams. I was a Personal Assistant for over eight years, including three years as the Senior Executive Assistant. When Covid created a world of new challenges, it also elevated people and made them think outside the box. I realized, then, there was a massive market for Virtual Assistants since a large portion of the workforce moved to a work-from-home model. My business grew through word of mouth because I am known for being very organized, can stay focused on different tasks, and meeting deadlines while continuing my education on various social media platforms.

Networking can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Step out of your comfort zone, relax and be nice. Learning how to network and build relationships with intelligent, successful people is one of the most valuable things to advance your career goals. I’ve had some of the most rewarding experiences and met new and exciting people through networking. I recommend going to as many events as possible and always be fully present and engaging in the conversations. Yes, most people at the event are just as scared as you are to start a conversation. So, instead of dwelling on that nervous feeling, be proactive and start the conversation yourself. Think about it from a different perspective on how you’ll be helping other people feel more comfortable.

Another way to get to know someone on a more personal level is by asking them to grab a cup of coffee or lunch. First, talk about positive things you have experienced or something you’re proud of. Then, take some time to show interest in their business by listening to their story and getting to know them.

I always follow up with a thank you message, and I add them on my social media channels. This starts to build a relationship and opens up the possibility for future opportunities. You never know how a connection might help your future career goals.

Life happens, and it isn’t always easy. Always give your best, no matter what life throws at you.
