

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emma Rainville
Hi Emma , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was the COO of a company that was doing about 7 million a year in online supplement sales when I met my business partner Travis Gomez. We had a great synergy from the first time we met. The two of us started consulting together on the same clients and helping each other with issues and difficulties that were challenges in the businesses we each worked for.
Over time we really loved what we were doing and building together and started exploring going into business together. Our spouses and kids got along well, and while we are polar opposites in every way, the fun we were having while solving big challenges in business was clearly a calling for us both.
In October, we decided to launch our first business together, Shockwave Solutions. We provide COO services, but unlike other fractional COO, we come with an ops team that is full-time in your business, making the strategy happen day in and day out, leaving business owners unstuck. Over the next few years, Travis and I launched several other businesses together, and it has been a fantastic ride!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing worth doing is ever going to be a smooth road. My journey has been one of many roadblocks, trials, and ceilings hit. I love the puzzle of the problem and have found the challenges and overcoming the most rewarding part of being a business owner.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I love risk. You just have to navigate through your tolerance of loss and think through how much loss this risk will cause if you are wrong. If you are comfortable with that, taking risks becomes much easier.
No one who ever did anything truly great did it without failure and risk. I celebrate both failure and risk-taking in my company as long as there is a well-thought-out strategy for how we win and how we lose.
