Hidden Gems: Meet Lina Lie of The Heartful Mama LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lina Lie

Hi Lina, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I am a business owner who offers parent coaching services to parents and caregivers who desire to raise their children peacefully – without yelling, bribing or punishing.

My journey as a parent coach is an organic one. It started when I first became a mother in 2018. As a first-time mom in my mid 30s, I was determined to be the best parent I can be to my baby. I read parenting books, took parenting classes and was confident in my ability to raise my child, only to realize I was far from being the mother I wanted to be.

When my baby became a toddler, I was really struggling to manage his countless meltdowns without losing my cool as well. I did not like the mother I was becoming, and I was frustrated, helpless and even resentful. I have always wanted to be a mother, and now that I am one, I was struggling to enjoy it. I love my child deeply but the power struggles we had often was wearing me out. I started researching for parenting help and came across parent coaching. It was my first time hearing about parent coaching and I was very intrigued that there is even a support like that for parents.

I enrolled myself in a parent coaching program and it’s one of the best life decisions I have made. Conscious or peaceful parenting has completely transformed my own parenting paradigm and the effects of that shift are very much felt in my family – with my partner, my now two children, and most importantly, in how I showed up in my world today. I had originally taken the program for my own parenting life but the transformation I had experienced motivated me to want to share what I have learned with other parents like me.

My desire to raise a healthier and more emotionally resilient next generation (and generations after that) led me to pivot from my previous career as a consultant and I started my own parent coaching business, where my primary goal is to support parents. I strongly believe that when parents are supported, the children under their care will naturally bloom and flourish.

Since getting my first certification as a parent coach, I have continued to pursue my professional development. I am now a certified Master Parent Coach with The Jai Institute for Parenting and a certified Parent Educator with the Positive Discipline Association. I am also a contributor to the book “The Peaceful Parenting (R)evolution: Changing the World by Changing How We Parent.”. Currently, I am pursuing training in somatic work to deepen my profession as a trauma-informed parenting coach, and to better serve my clients.

“When I am a better me, I am a better parent.” is the underlying philosophy in my practice. Understanding our generational patterns and having an awareness of how we were parented when we were kids, can help us recognize where in our own parenting, areas that we want to soften, heal and change, and areas where we can show up not just for the lives under our care, but also for ourselves.

It is truly the best way to parent.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Getting clients and experiencing imposter syndrome were struggles I had when I first started my practice. I had to work a lot on my own mindset and overcome my own fear of putting myself out there. As someone who doesn’t like to be in the limelight, marketing my business was very uncomfortable for me. I am grateful for the support and encouragement I had when I first started my business. There have been times when I thought of giving up, especially in the first couple years when you are still trying to figure out your business direction, and building your brand from scratch. Having a strong support network of like-minded entrepreneurs has been especially helpful for me, and I am very grateful for that.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Heartful Mama LLC?
I offer parent coaching to anyone who considers themselves a caregiver and needs support for their caregiving. I specialize in helping parents move away from the traditional way of parenting (yelling, punishing, and bribing) and towards a healthier way of parenting that deepens connection, strengthens collaboration, and improves communication with their children from a values-based approach that involves the entire family unit. My focus is on families with children between 0-7 years old, with a growing focus on elementary-aged children.

My coaching has two main focus:
1.  Coaching for the Parent/ Caregiver through a trauma-informed lens. All of my coaching programs are backed by research that is rooted in brain science, nervous system science, non-violent communication, attachment science and family values. Before we unpack what is happening for the child, we always focus on the parent first. This is where we expand on what we know, and integrate that knowledge in a way that makes sense for the parent and for the family system.

2. Strategies and Tools from a Positive Discipline perspective. As a Positive Discipline Parent Educator, I offer research-based strategies and tools that will support my clients’ day-to-day parenting life, tools that they can implement immediately, and with ease.

What I am most proud of in the work I do is that I support parents in integrating what they know, into their everyday parenting life. My clients have often shared that coaching with me has given them a safe container to uncover, reflect and assess their own parenting in a space that is non-judgmental and compassionate. And in the process of doing so, it allows them to shift in their own parenting mindset, which impacts the way they show up for their children.

Bottom line? Change cannot happen without awareness. My work as a coach is to support parents and caregivers in a safe container, holding space for their reflections and their parenting journey without judgment, and to gently guide them in gaining clarity of where they are in their parenting and how they can be empowered to become the parent they desire to be. There is a lot of parenting information out there today. My role is to help parents integrate that information so that it’s embodied in their day-to-day parenting.

It is not enough to read parenting books and know it in our minds. The magic is in integrating that knowledge into our bodies so that knowledge becomes alive in us. Parenting from an aligned body-mind place is the focus of my work, and I am deeply honored to partner with my clients as they evolve and grow in their parenting journey.

All of my sessions are held online, allowing me to coach clients from anywhere in the world.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Hmm…that is a good question. I don’t personally think much about luck. I do think that life brings you opportunities along the way, and depending on your own belief system, you accept or reject them. I am a believer of manifestation, karma, prayers, energy, whatever you like to call them – what you send out to the Universe comes back to you. I am a strong believer in knowing why you do what you do. And that ‘why’ is going to be your North Star, for the good times and the bad times in life and that goes for your business as well.
