Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanner Friesen
Hi Tanner, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Vanta Athletics is a rooftop soccer facility in Downtown Austin. We had 2 goals in mind as we created the space. First was to repurpose a space that wasn’t being used to create a viral soccer field. The second was to pair that with a community that could call it home. We have pickup soccer and leagues 7 days per week.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always struggles. Cost, time, logistics, money, marketing, and everything that goes into putting everything you have to your name on the line in order to build your dream.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
No one realizes I have a day job. I am a civil engineer and build skyscrapers. In my free time I not only am the founder of Vanta, but also the founder of Bones Customs, and Secret Disco Society in Austin. Secret Disco is one of Austin’s worst kept secrets and home to one of the best event teams in Austin.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Be yourself and the right people will come. Surrounding yourself with the right people is critical but surrounding yourself with the wrong people can be detrimental. Stay true to yourself, stay humble, stay honest, and have fun doing it.
