Conversations with Prachi Bhise

Today we’d like to introduce you to Prachi Bhise

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was born and raised in Mumbai, India, and I’ve been designing jewelry for over 27 years. My career began with a company under the Rosy Blue group, where I worked for eight years managing the design department and overseeing the creation of designs for major retailers across the USA. My role involved leading a talented team of designers, collaborating with cross-functional departments, and delivering high-quality, market-driven design solutions that aligned with each retailer’s brand identity and objectives. After getting married, I moved to the United States, and Austin, TX, has been my home for the past 17 years, where I live with my wonderful husband and our teenage son.

During my time in Austin, I had the opportunity to design for a home shopping network, where my collection, “Designs By Prachi,” was featured on their international TV shopping channel with great success. Like many designers, I always dreamed of starting my own line. To balance family life and pursue my passion, I made the leap and founded Prachi Bhise Jewelry in 2017.

I initially began designing gemstone jewelry, with pieces handcrafted in Jaipur, the heart of the gemstone world. My collection was well-received until the challenges of the COVID pandemic reshaped the jewelry landscape. It was during this time that I discovered polymer clay jewelry on social media, sparking a new chapter in my creative journey. Three years later, Pop Up Clay was born, and I’ve never looked back.

I find great joy in handcrafting each piece of jewelry, and when designing new collections, I often merge unexpected styles, giving my designs a fresh, modern appeal. Drawing inspiration from the beauty around us. Austin’s vibrant local maker community has been a huge source of inspiration for me, and I cherish the opportunity to connect with other women local creators. The support for local talent here fuels my creativity and drives me to keep evolving my designs.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything was going smoothly until the COVID pandemic hit. With businesses shutting down, I faced major challenges, as I was unable to procure my jewelry, which was being handcrafted in India. couple of stores that carried my pieces also closed their doors, making it a particularly difficult time to continue. However, when I discovered polymer clay, I couldn’t stop myself from experimenting with it. It became a turning point for me. My customers love the fact that each of my designs is unique and one-of-a-kind, with no two pieces ever being the same. I began participating in more events, and this not only helped me build stronger connections with my audience but also led to an increase in custom orders. It was during this time that I truly rediscovered my passion and resilience.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in creating polymer clay earrings, where every minute detail is carefully handcrafted. I have a deep passion for designing floral and travel-inspired pieces, drawing inspiration from the beauty of nature and the world around me. What sets me apart is my ability to create distinct, one-of-a-kind styles, ensuring each design feels fresh and unique.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I love about Austin is, it has a rich cultural diversity that adds to its charm. The mix of people, traditions, and events makes it a lively place to live. It also has a strong focus on innovation and creativity. Its a hub for startups and artist like me, which really inspires me. It’s a place where creativity thrives, and that spirit motivates me every day. Keep Austin weird! 🙂
