Today we’d like to introduce you to Ke’shon (key) Mccoy
Hi Ke’Shon (Key), please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started training jiu-jitsu after a couple years of watching MMA and thinking I don’t know how bad I want to get hit in the face right now but the grappling aspect I think I can do a Couple of gym Moved around a little bit trained in Mexico for about a month. when I moved back to Austin I knew I wanted to train your Jitsu research. A couple of gyms. Ultimately landed on trying out Blackwidow MMA and I knew once I stepped into Blackwidow MMA and trained under Oliver Taza, for the first time, I knew that this is something that I wanted to do for the foreseeable future. I started competing two months after I started training at Blackwidow in about April and I competed very frequently all the way up until December I competed about 39 times Including tournaments and super fights. In that time made great progress have been fortunate enough to also get training with some of the best grapplers in the world at ROKA under John Danaher thanks to my coach Oliver Taza.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was pretty smooth with the regular ups and downs of winning and losing in competition showing up every day training is something that I love to do and I enjoy it. It’s a part of my daily routine however at the end of last year in December 2023, I suffered knee injury and a competition Due to me making a mistake I wasn’t submitted however I got caught in a position and I made the wrong move and I end up tearing my LCL my ACL and my PCL I had knee reconstruction surgery in February 2024 and since then, I have been rehab and recovering so that I can hopefully return in the beginning of 2025 to competing. At this point, I’m about 85% back to normal. I’m able to train like normal. I’m getting my lifts back up to where they were before I got injured and everything is looking good for me to return to competition in the beginning of 2025.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
So as I mentioned, I did jiu-jitsu and I would say among my peers I’m known for being a very fast learner and then also being decently good for my skill level and time that I’ve been training when I got injured I had been training for about 1011 months and then Since Coming back from an injury we’re still making good progress. February next year will make two years of training set me as a part. I’m probably one of the heaviest grapplers in the area. I would be considered a “high calorie grappler.” That being said with my size and mobility that set me apart from others.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My curiosity is the most important thing. I think I’m always looking for ways to get better. I’m always looking for new things to learn. Another thing would be my discipline to show up most days more often than not. I’m always in the gym. Being curious being disciplined And being fearless, I have a optimistic and positive outlook on most situations and I’m always thinking of the best case scenario and I’m really into risk it to achieve what I wanna achieve
