Hidden Gems: Meet Laura Ramos of Laura Ramos Nutrition

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Ramos

Hi Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Born and raised in Austin,TX I have always loved food and the way it connects us, many of us have a childhood story about gathering in the kitchen to make recipes passed down through generations or around a table full of loved ones. When I began my journey at the University of Texas I knew I wanted to make a difference. I am a helper by nature and knew that I wanted to choose a path that helped me do that. I fell in love with nutrition science and the idea of food fueling us through the many stages of life. I have a back ground in various areas of nutrition, clinical care, long term care, food service and behavioral health to name a few. But what I love most is working one on one or in small groups. I recently finished my certification with the Integrative and Functional Nutrition Academy and am jumping in head first to opening my private practice. This has been a dream of mine for many years and I am so excited to finally feel ready to make this happen

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My dietetics career is an interesting one full of ups and downs and layoffs and such. It follows very closely to my seasons of motherhood and I find that to be somewhat of a gift. After being laid off right before my first child was born, I had an opportunity to pause my career and spend time at home with her. I am a mom of 4 and have struggled with the push and pull and balancing act of my career and motherhood. But each birthing experience is very much responsible for the love I have for dietetics and for the value I see in how a nourished body can be so healing. After a much more difficult 3rd pregnancy at 35 I found myself fascinated once again by functional nutrition and knew this is where I wanted to spend my time helping others. I want to be a better advocate for women who are navigating fertility and for those approaching perimenopause and menopause. I love the idea that we don’t have to laugh and suffer through this season of life about how horrible we feel. We can actually do something to go through it was ease! Navigating my health has not been easy but is a big part of me learning how to help my clients. My children are a bit older now and while I still am very busy at their schools and watching them play sports on the weekend I love sharing the experiences of being brave and living my dream with them.

We’ve been impressed with Laura Ramos Nutrition , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I try to have a positive and very practical approach to eating and wellness. While I work mostly with women I see men too. Many of my clients have a desire to loose weight, better control their blood sugar or have digestive problems. I use lab results to show the need for change and to have proven results. I leave it up to my clients to lead the way and own their health journey. I am not the judge and the jury by any means. I’m most proud of seeing the joy in my clients face when they say they feel better! Having better digestion, and loosing the fatigue is a huge win in my book. My hope is that I teach my clients life long lessons that are manageable to promote a healthy lifestyle. Many of my clients like the functional lab test that I use such as DUTCH hormone test, GI MAP stool test and MRT food sensitivities test. I also can personalize supplement protocols for my clients based on their individual needs. I am currently seeing new clients and take health insurance. Pricing for those who have insurance can vary but many plans cover the visit with little to no out of pocket cost. Cash pay is also an option. The best way to reach out to me is by my instagram page, send me a DM and I would love to offer you a free 15 min consult to see if I would be a good fit.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I wouldn’t say I have had good or bad luck in life. I am the product of an amazing support system. I am a first generation college graduate, from a mom who supported my dream from a really young age. She worked her tail off to make sure I believed that dream was possible if I worked hard enough. I can’t ever forget how grateful I am that I believed her when she said I could be whoever I wanted to be when I grew up. In this journey of starting my own business I am grateful for my husband, kids, extended family and friends who cheer me on daily!
