Today we’d like to introduce you to Andy Dollerson
Hi Andy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Moved to Austin from the UK in 2004 – met my now biz partner Jake Owen soon after, and we started writing and producing together. Initially we were doing a lot of adverts, writing for television. But we gradually moved over to production for independent artists, and started DOsounds productions, with studios in Brooklyn and Austin.
I got married and moved back to the UK for 10 years, and we continued the business, working with clients remotely all over the world.
Now I’m back in Austin, and am re-setting my studio on South Lamar. Jake and I are working with clients all over the US, and globally.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a typical road for the music industry. It can be hard for the work projects not to be feast or famine. Ironically with the pandemic we were well set up to continue working, and we got a lot of extra work with remote clients who were holed up in their living space, not able to get to regular studios.
The challenge for me now is re-connecting back into the city after so long away.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about DOsounds.com?
We are passionate about working with talented independent artists, and taking their music from any situation to fully mixed, mastered release. We’ve found over the years that being able to take a lot of the administrative load off the clients mind helps them to be more focussed on their art, which inevitably leads to better quality work. We’ve built up a very big network of talented session musicians, Mix engineers, mastering engineers, and connects in the promotion and sync sides of the industry that we continually rely on to help bring our clients work to life.
We’re also committed to give artists a helping hand beyond just the finished, mastered music. There are over 150,000 tracks released on Spotify DAILY, which is nuts. So just releasing your music online is no longer good enough to get exposure. We help our artists come up with a release strategy, and suggest different ideas on being creative in how they release their music so they have the best chance possible of building their fanbase up as they continue to create.
How do you define success?
Success for me means building a business where our clients walk away with music they couldn’t be more proud of, a clutch of new friends, and a deeper understanding of music production.
This industry is getting harder to make a living, so if we can look back on the year and see that we’ve helped artists grow in their art, and derive income from it, then we’ve achieved our goal.
