Hi Sarah and Qudduws, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Crisp & Chew started with love—I wanted to create the perfect oatmeal cookie for my husband. This goal came about because it had been difficult to find a good oatmeal cookie in bakeries around town! After countless batches, I landed on a recipe with the perfect balance of crisp edges and chewy centers, and Crisp & Chew was born! We created this company to share our cookie joy with others and also to give the oftentimes overlooked oatmeal cookie the spotlight that it deserves.
Since launching our website in 2024, we’ve grown from a home bakery to a brand with two local pickup locations, including partnerships with The Gym TX and Parker + Scott. After a short trial, we were invited to join the Wolf Ranch Farmers Market full-time, where our cookies have become a customer favorite and we frequently sell out. And now, we’re excited to announce our most recent retail development, a vendor partnership with Sugar Mommy’s Bakehouse in Georgetown, where you can grab our oatmeal cookies alongside their amazing lineup of sweet treats!
From humble beginnings to exciting developments, we’re on a mission to elevate the oatmeal cookie experience by honoring classic flavors like Oatmeal Raisin with the respect they deserve while crafting new, unique flavors like Lemon Raspberry and Banana S’mores that delight and surprise the palate.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a fairly smooth road! We were encouraged by a lot of test bakes for family and friends that we truly had a recipe that delights! Once we started at the Wolf Ranch Farmer’s Market selling out fairly consistently, we knew that we had a recipe for success. The main struggle we face at this stage is knowing when and how to scale the business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Since 2005, I’ve built a career defined by growth and success in corporate America, starting as a receptionist and working my way up the ranks within a marketing firm in New York. With expertise spanning business operations, human resources, marketing, and strategy, I’ve consistently driven financial growth and operational excellence for my clients year over year.
What I’m most proud of, though, is the role I’ve played in contributing to the success of several businesses along the way. My deep understanding of what it takes to run and scale a company sets me apart. As someone well-versed in the operational side of things, managing those aspects of Crisp & Chew has felt like second nature, allowing me to focus on bringing our unique vision to life.
My husband/partner in the business Qudduws Ware, comes from a creative career background. He is a producer/rapper, known for his innovative approach to blending soulful hip-hop with global influences. He just relaunched his debut EP, Quite Delicious (1997), produced by J. Dilla. What sets him apart is his deep connection to art and music, combined with a fearless exploration of new sounds, making his work resonate with both nostalgia and innovation. This translates into an artistic approach to Crisp & Chew that makes us stand out.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson we’ve learned is the value of allowing others to help. Whether it’s accepting a friend’s offer to share a glowing review with their large social media following or fulfilling a corporate client’s generous order, We’ve realized the power of letting those we have supported return the favor. It’s a humbling and rewarding experience that has shown me the strength of community and connection.
