Today we’d like to introduce you to Reagan Zimmerman
Hi Reagan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
The After Dark Society started as a concept back in late 2019 when Hunter (guitar) and I, Reagan (vocals) were working together at Home Depot. Hunter was in two bands already at the time, and I had long since given up pursuing music after several failed attempts to put a band together in high school. We hit it off as friends right away, and after a little convincing hunter agreed to take on an additional third band. Little did we know at the time that this concept we had put together would become the focal point of our lives. We soon got to work putting together our original line up along with writing, and finishing our first body of work, our debut ep “Tales from the Asylum”. We were all set to play our first live show in 2020 when all a sudden the entire world shut down due to covid. We took this time to practice the songs we had written over and over ad nauseam until we could perform them in our sleep until finally in February 2021 we received our first opportunity to perform as The After Dark Society in front of a live crowd, and the rest as they say is history. Hunter shortly thereafter quit his other bands and we were off, performing at venues and festivals all over the great state of Texas, dropping additional songs here and there, until tragedy struck in 2023 and I suffered catastrophic organ failure setting the band’s momentum back while I was on the shelf for several months. To compound this devastating blow, once I had recovered I celebrated by going to a show downtown, jumping from a balcony to impress a girl and breaking my ankle in three places for my troubles, setting the bands momentum even further back. This was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back for most of the members of the band at that point and I soon found myself back at square one with only Hunter staying on and seeing this through with me. During this unexpected down time I had time to reflect on where I had gone wrong, and what I wanted for myself looking into the future, and came out of it with an ironclad resolve to keep both my dream of music and this band alive. As soon as I could walk on crutches hunter and I got back to work, and we recruited Haval (Drums) and soon realized what an integral part he would play going forward. As a three piece we released our Latest single “Body Count” in late 2024 and are currently working on releasing a new ep summer 2025 and our first mini tour with our good friends in Lonestar Massacre. Keep your Eyes peeled because biG ThiNgs CoMing SoOn!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all, but the challenges we faced have only made us stronger. From major line-up changes, to serious personal health issues, we have been through the ringer, but we are still here, and we are still swinging.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I think where we thrive as a band is in our genuineness. Whether we play in front of hundreds of people or five people, we want to put 110% into our performance, and no matter what dark places our music takes us to, it all comes from the heart.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Do not be afraid to be yourself. Young bands are the heart and blood of this scene. Take risks, wear your heart on your sleeve, and don’t be afraid to stand out. Don’t get me wrong, it’s great to take advice from bands and to listen to people that have been in the scene for a while, with age comes wisdom after all, but remember at the end of the day, it’s your vision, your band, and your path to make!
