Today we’d like to introduce you to Kameryn Matranga
Hi kameryn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I began my journey as a birth doula before discovering my love for photography. It was during my very first birth that I realized how important it was to capture such a special moment. That’s when it hit me—families don’t just deserve photos of their birth, but of their entire journey: from pregnancy and motherhood to the newborn stage, toddlerhood, and beyond.
I invested in a $200 DSLR camera and jumped right in. I wasn’t sure where the path would take me, but I quickly fell in love with the art of documenting the precious details. Over time, I committed myself to offering heartfelt service to my clients and continuously improving the quality of my work.
Being entirely self-taught has certainly been challenging, but it’s also been incredibly rewarding. It’s taught me not only technical skills but also the importance of cherishing the small moments and the relationships we build along the way. After just eight months of doing what I love, my business has grown beyond what I could have imagined, and I’m truly grateful for everything I’ve accomplished.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to where I am today certainly had its challenges, but surprisingly not as many as I expected. A big part of my growth came from connecting with others—building relationships with clients, other photographers, and doulas. The biggest challenge I’ve faced, though, has been finding the time. Balancing my work in healthcare, being a mom to two precious (and growing!) little ones, and managing my business has been a real juggling act. But despite the struggles, it’s been so worth it!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I wear two hats, professionally: as a birth doula and a photographer. As a doula, I walk alongside expecting parents through their entire pregnancy, birth, and newborn journey, providing them with the support and information they need every step of the way. From the moment they hire me, I’m there for them—not just during their pregnancy or birth, but beyond. My support continues long after their baby arrives.
As a photographer, I specialize in capturing mostly moments of motherhood. I photograph births, maternity sessions, Fresh 48s (newborn hospital photos), and more. Personally, I believe that becoming a parent—especially a mother—is one of the most transformative experiences anyone can go through. It’s a feeling that’s hard to put into words; it’s almost like magic.
What are your plans for the future?
I would love to grow a business that employs me full time so that I can be at home with my family more. As they are the most important things in my life. If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t have the passion for what I do today. I just plan to be successful and give other families the love and support they deserve!
