Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Sheila Baez of Blossom and Heal Therapy PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Sheila Baez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey began in women’s health, where I worked as a nurse and midwife apprentice. Supporting women during some of the most transformative moments of their lives was my passion. However, as a military spouse, I quickly realized that pursuing midwifery full-time wasn’t the best fit for my growing family. The unpredictability of the profession, combined with the challenges of finding 3 a.m. childcare, made me rethink my path.

This was a difficult time for me. I struggled with the idea of putting my passion for women’s health on the back burner. But then I reflected on my love for psychology—those undergrad courses that fascinated me and sparked my curiosity about the human mind. That’s when the lightbulb went off.

I decided to pursue a graduate degree in counseling to become a therapist and later earned a doctoral degree in Developmental Psychology to gain a deeper understanding of human development—from womb to tomb. This shift allowed me to continue supporting individuals in meaningful ways, particularly through birth trauma, complex trauma, childhood trauma, and anxiety.

In June 2024, I took a leap and launched my private practice. It’s been an incredible journey to provide compassionate care and help people heal and thrive. I feel grateful every day to do work that aligns with my passion and to be a part of my clients’ healing journeys.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s safe to say the road hasn’t always been smooth, but the challenges have shaped me into the professional I am today. Balancing personal life, family responsibilities, and the demands of being both a graduate and doctoral student was no small feat. There were countless late nights spent writing papers, meeting deadlines, and completing licensure hours—all while navigating the unique challenges of military life.

As a military spouse, we moved nearly every two years, which meant rebuilding our home life, community, and routine from the ground up each time. Juggling academic and professional goals in the midst of these transitions was exhausting at times, but it also taught me resilience and adaptability.

These experiences gave me a firsthand understanding of the toll that stress and constant change can take, which I now draw upon when supporting my clients. Every challenge has ultimately helped me develop empathy and insight, allowing me to connect on a deeper level with the people I serve.
