Conversations with Kathy Lindsey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathy Lindsey

Hi Kathy , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
While working as an Academic Advisor for a four year university I was also a massage therapist. Both occupations allowed me the opportunities to help people. When I retired from both fields I knew I would want to continue to help people in some way. Then the pandemic hit, giving me a lot of time to figure out what would be the next chapter in my life. While searching online I found a news video about a massage therapist who utilized Tibetan singing bowls on her clients. This was that “light bulb over the head” moment for me. I started researching Tibetan singing bowls which sent me down a rabbit hole of information about sound waves and frequencies. In that process, I learned about sound baths utilizing quartz crystal singing bowls that produced sounds and vibrations that could fill a room. I had found my path! I started collecting bowls and other instruments that would help me create an atmosphere full of sounds and vibrational frequencies that would both travel through the bodies of my clients providing a cellular level sonic massage and also carry their minds and spirits to other places and times of which only they are aware.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Both! In some ways things just fell into place, which helped me realize I was on the right path. But since I don’t have my own studio, finding places to offer sound bath journeys has been challenging. Aside from the pop-ops, I also offer sound bath journeys to private groups, such as companies for staff appreciation and friend gatherings.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Some see sound baths as a musical event. However, in my opinion, it is a therapeutic session similar to getting a massage or Reiki session in that the goal of the practitioner is to help the client relax and let go of stress and leave feeling restored, rejuvenated. I try to take my clients on a journey away from the here and now. But oftentimes it can be a real challenge to get our brains to let go. So we start with something familiar that gives the mind a place to go, such as lying on a warm beach listening to the surf or lying on a cot in a screened-in porch listening to distant rolling thunder as fat raindrops hit the roof. From there we might hear sounds that make us think of whales or even outer space. By this time in the hour long session most folks have fallen into their theta brain wave where we can dream and imagine anything. This is when I bring in the droning sounds of the quartz crystal singing bowls and clients are carried away to places only they can imagine.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was twelve both of my siblings were grown and out of our parents’ house. My parents scraped enough money together for me to lease a horse and take riding lessons. I won a blue ribbon in my first horse show! After that they somehow made it possible for me to have a horse of my own and continue to take lessons and show. It was such a blessing and one of the best times of my life.
