Meet Rott of Austin, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rott

Hi Rott, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was raised by a single mother who did her best to provide while dealing with addiction. We moved around a lot between project housing, but spent most of my time in Dallas, Texas. My humble beginnings instilled a determination in me to make a better life for myself and leave the projects behind. Most of my time as a child consisted of playing basketball and writing poetry. Sports and writing were my escape from my environment, and eventually led me to music.
I eventually taught myself how to make my own instrumentals, record, and mix music. Although I was decent at creating music, I decided to enroll at The Art Institute of Austin for music production. However, seeing that college was very expensive, I decided to join the Army. After serving four years in the military, I returned to The Art Institute and finished my bachelors degree. I have been releasing music since 2015 consistently, collaborating with local artists like Blakchyl, CasinoATX, and Cha’Keeta B.
The majority of my music is produced by my friend Mt. Cyanide and myself. This self-sufficient process allows me to release new music on a weekly basis. I have lived in Austin for 12 years and love this city and its culture. I am blessed to live in the age of the internet which has allowed me to grow an international fan base that supports me everyday.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has definitely not been a smooth road. Due to not only my environment, but also my own choices. I’ve found that the most significant achievements are attained through struggle. I feel if the road is too smooth, I should be doing more.
My road has been riddled with many challenges from poverty, drugs, abuse, and lack of resources. All of these struggles have made me a strong, resourceful, determined person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a self produced hip-hop artist inspired by the sounds of lo-fi, rap, r&b, and house. Aside from the multiple singles I release monthly, I have released a few larger projects such as “ChasingEquilibrium” and the “MidnightBarzTape” series.
I also provide production, mixing, and writing services for many other artist. We have a beautiful music scene in Austin, and I am proud to be a part of it.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I am a big fan of psychology and sociology so you will usually find me reading non-fiction, or listening to an esoteric podcast. I’m a student of life, and constantly try to consume anything that will open up my mind and help me become a better person. I love history, culture, religion, and self development.
