Rising Stars: Meet Davin Pham of Austin, TX

Today we’d like to introduce you to Davin Pham

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a kid I always loved posing in front of the camera and growing up one of my favorite shows to watch was America’s Next Top Model. I would say the model in me was always there, but my way into the modeling industry was through a friendship that was formed in 2016. In 2016, I met Fernanda through being a fan of the girl band Fifth Harmony. Our paths crossed because we were both Fifth Harmony stans, also known as harmonizers. Fernanda was a landscape and concert photographer. At the time, she wanted to experiment with taking portraits, and she basically asked me to be her guinea pig as a model. After posting our first shoot on Instagram, I started getting recognition from other local photographers, and I have continued to model since then, which leads me to some amazing opportunities!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say my path hasn’t been the smoothest, but it also hasn’t been the roughest! Modeling is not the only thing I do in my everyday life. In reality, not all modeling opportunities are paid and modeling does not pay all the bills for me. Outside of modeling, I also like to perform occasionally as a singer, be an ESL instructor and work in the microbiology lab at a hospital! Finding and managing a work-life balance has definitely been a challenge, since I do like to have a lot on my plate. Now talking about the challenges I face in the modeling industry. I would say I’m not your typical model that fits under the standards of the cut-throat industry. I’m a short Asian American model and this has worked against me in some scenarios. However, I do not let this get in the way. I’m truly thankful to the people who believe in me and for the opportunities I have gotten for modeling throughout the years! I hope more and bigger ones will come soon.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a fashion model based in Austin. I do both commercial and editorial work. My biggest goal with modeling is to contribute to breaking the industry standard for petite and short models. What might set me apart from other models is, I love incorporating my Vietnamese background and performance skills, like my love for dance, into the way I flow and pose in front of the camera. I love pulling inspiration from my culture and from other creative fields of art.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I would say to be successful you cannot rely only on luck but luck combined with consistency will take you far. You truly do not know what is in store and what opportunities will come. Luck has definitely open some doors for me but I really hope I’ll be able to open more in modeling career!
