Today we’d like to introduce you to Marissa Antillon
Hi Marissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Let’s go back in time a little bit… As a teen girl I knew I always wanted to work with women, helping them feel their best. Fast forward to about 4 years ago I was in the middle of my divorce, I had a 2 year old, I knew I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him and needed a job I could do that made ends meet. My aunt randomly suggested one night out on my mom’s back porch that I should do eyelash extensions and the rest is history. I’ll be licensed 3 years this summer. My only regret is I wish I went into it with the mindset to thrive and not just survive. But still incredibly grateful for the process God has put me through to get me where I am today. And this is only just the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
So many obstacles with work and life. I’ve worked out of my mom’s house to a studio suite I shared with a hair stylist to now an office space and hopefully one day back to a salon type of room. Definitely been some learning curves. Still learning as we speak. I’ve always been a solo artist so a lot of self teaching, University of TikTok and YouTube to learn about marketing and business information (haha). But I think every great entrepreneur has to have a student’s mindset. How else does one continue to grow?
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed Lash Artist. I do a lot of more natural sets. I get a lot of mom clients that just need a little something from day to day that makes them feel more put together. They get to wake up and go, all I did was enhance their natural beauty. I’m most proud of the connections I make with my clients. I’ve been the first to know about their pregnancies, to know the gender, part of their wedding planning experience, I know all the tea about their MILs, I’ve been the first to know their getting a divorce, I’ve counted down the days until the divorce is finalized with them. The list goes on. My clients will tell you too an appointment with me you either get a therapist, a sermon, a great murder mystery, beat nap ever or all the above.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
This is going to sound cheesy but: TikTok, the Bible and my pastor. I think the tips I received over TikTok when it comes to lashing and business, have been more helpful than getting my actual license! In the short time that I’ve been a believer in Christ and going to my church The R.O.C.K. SCT it’s changed my view on business and relationships in the best way possible. At the end of the day the connections I make with my clients will always be more important than the amount of clients I have. Life is a vapor so enjoy the moment. The physical, material things really don’t matter. Money will come and go. Steward it wisely. Smile at a stranger. Hug your loved ones.
