Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Hurtado

Hi Matthew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Way back in 1994 with no direction in mind I stumbled into a job as an electricians apprentice in El Paso, Texas By stumble , I mean my girlfriends dad said if I was going to date his daughter I needed to have a good job.
It’s crazy to think that was 30 years ago!
I moved to Austin in 1998 and went to work for a small company named Austin Electric Service. After working there for a few years. Some of the former employees opened their own business Biggs and Smith Electric. I worked for two versions of that company for the next 18 years .

During that time I was growing my skill sets and customer relationships.
In addition to growing in the trade at that time . I decided to venture into building custom motorcycles and custom leather work . That work can be seen at @Workingmanscustoms on IG .
I set out with a plan to have a motorcycle I built published in a national magazine and become a master leathersmith. It took 8 years but I accomplished those goals in addition to showcasing a few of my builds at The Handbuilt Show here in Austin.

With those goals met I refocused my energy into the electrical trade got my master electricians license and helped start an electrical division for a local MEP contractor in south Austin. During my tenure there I had a realization that many of my peers said would come.

Stop building other people’s business and build your own!

Well , in October of 2023 I got my electrical contractors license and opened up Magpie Electrical Services LLC.

Over the years working in Austin I’ve always focused on quality work and exceptional customer service.

These qualities are what I am building my business on . I truly believe with solid communication, quality workmanship and exceptional customer service that any business can flourish!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All in all ,it has been a pretty smooth road. The only real struggle so far has been work /life balance.
During all my years building other people’s business I would always put a 100% of myself into it.
Let’s just say, When it’s yours , you’re putting a 150% of yourself in it!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
