Yzabelle Onate

Hi Yzabelle, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in Queens, New York, and growing up in such a diverse, fast-paced city shaped me in so many ways. Being surrounded by different cultures, languages, and perspectives gave me a natural curiosity and openness to new experiences.

My career has taken me through a few different industries, each of which has played a role in shaping my perspective and skill set. Working in the airline industry allowed me to meet people from all over the world, reinforcing my love for travel and cultural exchange. I also speak French, which has helped me connect with even more people across different backgrounds.

During college, I had an editorial internship that introduced me to storytelling in a deeper way. We interviewed small business owners, emerging fashion designers, and people in the beauty and wellness space, giving me a firsthand look at the power of community and authentic narratives. That experience ignited my passion for amplifying voices and telling meaningful stories—something that has carried through my career.

Today, I work in social media marketing in the biotech space, where I continue to bring storytelling to the forefront by translating complex ideas into engaging and accessible content. Outside of work, I’ve always been drawn to social media as a way to authentically share my experiences—whether it’s traveling, discovering new restaurants, or exploring wellness practices. I love highlighting businesses and unique finds, especially in Austin, where I’m based, and in places I’ve traveled to, like New Mexico, France, and Portugal.

That passion for discovery and connection is what led me to create A Traveler’s Notebook, my blog and social media space. It’s a corner of the internet dedicated to inspiring others to step out of their comfort zones, explore new places, and support incredible businesses along the way. Each step of my journey has been about connection—whether it’s through travel, storytelling, or digital communities—and that continues to be at the heart of everything I do.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Social media is constantly evolving, and staying ahead of trends while remaining authentic has been a learning process. Building A Traveler’s Notebook and growing my platform took time and consistency, but I’ve loved sharing my experiences and inspiring others to explore new places.

Another challenge has been balancing creativity with strategy, especially in biotech marketing, where I translate complex ideas into engaging content. It’s been rewarding to find ways to make information accessible while staying true to my storytelling roots.

Despite the ups and downs, I wouldn’t change a thing. Each experience has reinforced my love for connection—whether through travel, social media, or highlighting businesses in Austin and beyond. Every challenge has led me to where I am today, and I’m excited for what’s next.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in social media marketing within the biotech industry, and I’m passionate about the power of digital storytelling. I specialize in social media and content strategy, balancing creativity with data-driven insights to create impactful content.

What I’m most proud of is my continuous growth—always pushing myself to learn, adapt, and expand my horizons. Growing up in New York City shaped my perspective, making me open to new experiences and adaptable in fast-paced environments. That curiosity carries into my work, where I’m known for trying new things, staying ahead of trends, and encouraging others to do the same.

Social media is constantly evolving, and success comes from staying aware of what’s happening in the world—drawing inspiration from everyday moments and cultural shifts. I thrive on that challenge and love using social media not just as a marketing tool, but as a way to connect, inform, and inspire.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The COVID-19 crisis taught me the importance of family and cherishing the small moments. It reminded me that life is unpredictable, and the little things—shared meals, conversations, and simple joys—matter the most. It also reinforced the value of taking chances and living authentically, because nothing is guaranteed. More than ever, I believe in embracing opportunities, staying present, and creating a life that feels true to who you are.
