Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenzie Perez
Hi Kenzie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
The start of my career in cosmetic tattooing was a natural progression from my years as a make up artist. I had a successful career in New Orleans doing make up for events & film/music videos, but I had visions of myself living in Austin and starting a career here. Once I moved here, I was on a job doing make up for a client when she mentioned the term “Microblading”. After doing research, I just knew that this career path was for me. I used every dollar I saved to train to learn how to tattoo brows. Back in that time in 2017, it was so new and there wasn’t many people in town offering it. I kept learning and growing, building a clientele base in both Austin and New Orleans and adding new services to my menu. In 2021, I decided I wanted to open my own beauty studio, where clients can come get cosmetic tattoos, lashes, tooth gems, and other cool services. I found an amazing team of artist who all share the same passion for our industry and making clients feel confident & happy. I also expanded and started offering trainings to other artist to learn Nano Brows (tattooed brows) & Lip Blushing (tattooed lips).
I know that my passion and love for my craft is what lead to so many doors opening for me. I feel so much joy in my career and it means so much to me to make my clients feel supported & beautiful. It’s an honor to own a cosmetic studio that is a safe space for all, in one of the best cities in the world, Austin.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My journey has not been a smooth road, at all. It was, and continues to be, a learning experience. The industry I’m in is a hard one to be successful in. Not only do you have to learn the skill you’re offering, but learning the nuances of business ownership wasn’t something that came natural to me. Once I had a grip on my personal business, I opened Fresh Cosmetic Studio. I had to navigate so many obstacles, and the first 2 years of business ownership were extremely difficult for me. I had to learn to believe in myself and trust my intuition after suffering an “ego death”. Coming out on the other side, I appreciate all the hardships I’ve experienced. I have learned a lot about myself while owning a small business. I like to use my platform and experience to help guide other women owned (& small) businesses any way that I can, and I’m happy to give any advice that I have. Being open and honest about the high’s and low’s of business ownership is extremely important to me.

My favorite subject to yap about is my career. I’m so lucky to be able to help women & men feel great about themselves with tattooing their brows or lips. I like to call us, therapist that do brows. You get an entire experience when you book with us at Fresh. We want you to giggle and yap with us, and leave us feeling confident & feeling great.
I offer Nano Brows, which is a brow tattoo where I tattoo tiny hair-like stroke with the tattoo machine, like an optical illusion. I also offer Lip Blushing and Lip Neutralization, which is tattooing your lips a desired tone that you want. I work with a lot of clients with cancer, alopecia, and scarring and that is what I’m most passionate about with my career. In the past 2 years, I also started helping clients who need removal of previously tattooed brows & restoring their brows for them. These appointments are extremely rewarding to both my clients and myself.
I’m most proud to have many clients who trust me and support me unconditionally. I have clients that I’ve been working with since the beginning of my career. I’m so grateful to all my clients!
Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
Taking risk is the only thing that will break you out of your comfort zone. I believe that people get rewarded for the hard work they put into something, but you can’t get the reward without the risk. If you let your intrusive thoughts or self doubt stop you from achieving a higher level of yourself, you’ll never know the satisfaction of accomplishing something that you’ve dream about. I’ve followed my gut and have taken risk my entire adult life. Many of those risk failed, but a lot of my risk taking lead me to having such amazing things, I hope everyone can find confidence in themselves to take the risk. Trust me, if I can do it, so can you (I know cliche, but its true!)
