Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Roberts
Hi Tim, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started working at Konica Professional Services after 6 years in the Army. I was in management consulting and was a cost containment specialist. I was the #1 Rep in the United States within 18 months and realized nobody from the home office or for that matter at my local office had ever been to a meeting with me. For all intents and purposes, I was the business to my clients. It was then I realized I could do it on my own and started my first company within 18 months. I have no had a job ever since.
I built and sold two companies with my wife at my side. They were built to the low millions in revenue and were wildly profitable. In 18 years, I retrenched over 130 companies and burned out in 2008. I sold it when it was no longer fun.
I got very sick during Covid and was partially paralyzed from the illness (it nearly killed me). I was one of the first patients in Austin and was hospialized on December 25, 2019. They did not even know what it was. I could not work for nearly 2 years. After recovering, I contracted cancer. Yeah, it sucks, I know. But it made me stronger and made me realize I have a LOT left to do. I started helping my wife in her bookkeeping business and people started asking me questions about best practices. So I made some recommendations and the clients started growing their companies.
I am now a fractional growth officer using the sytems I have used for years and they still work whether you want to contain costs or scale your business. They are simple. They work. It’s fun when you do this for small companies that really want to grow and watch the excitement when you give them a bulletproof system by which they can do so. One of my clients grew 100% in 2023 and 266% in 2024. It’s fun helping people reach their dreams and get momentum. It is incredibly rewarding.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle for anyone my age is finding a way to stay motivated. It’s not the money that is the driver. It’s the contributive aspect of work. It does not matter whether you are a person of traditional faith, an aetheist or simply a spiritual person. The most important thing a person can do (in my opinion) is to realize as much of their potential as possible. When I accepted this, it became clear to me that I had gotten nowhere near mine. That’s why I am doing what I am doing now.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am known for executing and creating workable solutions from disparate resources. What sets me apart from other people is my deep understanding of company culture and building winning teams that fit within the culture. Some people know how sales work, some know how finance or operations work. I deeply understand how all three work and how to make each strong and run smoothly together. Very few people have that capability.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Playing with my grandchildren. Watching my wife light up with excitement or happiness. Watching my children grow into successful adults and accomplishing things on their own terms. Watching the lives of my clients change. Coaching football. Overcoming a personal limitation, be it a belief that is limiting or beating a hindering habit. Knowing that I am a better man today than yesterday.
