Today we’d like to introduce you to Katia Forero
Hi Katia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Creativity has always been a part of my life. I grew up in an artistic environment, our home was always filled with music, thanks to my dad, a percussionist when he wasn’t working as an accountant. My mother had an eye for design that could have made her an interior decorator. The arts were second nature to us, so when I started college, I knew I wanted to create.
I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fashion Design with a minor in Retail Merchandising, which led me to my first job as a product development coordinator for a company specializing in Harley-Davidson novelties. It was there, overseeing catalog photoshoots, that I discovered my love for photography. That passion grew when I moved to Pittsburgh and started taking photography classes. What began as casual photo sessions with friends soon turned into something more.
Determined to refine my craft, I immersed myself in the photography world, attending conferences, workshops, and learning from industry professionals. I spent countless hours studying and practicing until, in 2009, I photographed my first wedding as a professional photographer. From that moment on, I was hooked.
With over 15 years in the industry, I relocated to Austin in 2015 to rebuild my business and continue my journey. While I’ve had the privilege of capturing incredible love stories, my focus has now shifted to working with small business entrepreneurs, especially women in business; helping them create powerful, authentic imagery that reflects their brand and vision.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t always been smooth. After building a clientele in Pittsburgh, we made the move to Austin, and I had to start from scratch. This time with more experience and even more determination. Networking became my lifeline, helping me establish myself in a new city. I’ve been incredibly fortunate to meet and collaborate with amazing people who have helped me along the way.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
For the past 15 years, I’ve built my career as a portrait and wedding photographer, but I’m stepping into a new chapter of my photography journey, one that re-ignited my passion for photography. I’ve found my calling in working with business owners in the Austin area, creating imagery that not only represents their brand but also brings a human touch to their services. My focus is on providing visual content tailored for social media, helping entrepreneurs connect authentically with their audience.
I’m especially passionate about empowering women in business, using photography as a tool to showcase their confidence, strength, and unique stories.
What I’m most proud of is the impact my work has on others. Over the past few years, I’ve had the privilege of providing my clients with a restorative experience, whether through portraits, or now, branding photography, seeing my images help entrepreneurs build their businesses, gain confidence, and connect with their audience is incredibly fulfilling.
I take pride in creating photography that goes beyond aesthetics; it tells a story, builds a brand, and empowers women to step into their power. Knowing that my work helps business owners present themselves authentically and confidently is what drives my photography efforts now a days.
What sets me apart in the photography industry is the unique blend of my background, skills, and passion for empowerment. With a degree in fashion design and over 15 years as a photographer, I bring a keen eye for style, composition, and branding that helps my clients stand out. I love creating timeless, sophisticated and curated imagery for them while telling the story of who they are as a business.
Being bilingual in Spanish and English allows me to connect with a diverse range of clients, making every session comfortable and inclusive.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have to admit, I’m not a big risk-taker. I believe in steady, consistent growth and that success comes from hard work, showing up every day, and staying true to yourself rather than imitating others. I’ve dedicated myself to my craft, remained focused on my goals, and built meaningful relationships with my clients, connections that have been the foundation of my journey.
