Today we’d like to introduce you to Delaney Schafer
Hi Delaney, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
When I was in middle school I was on the yearbook staff so I would say that’s what opened my eyes into the world of photography. When I graduated high school my Aunt and Uncle bought me my first professional camera. I enjoyed taking just nature pictures at that time and swore I would never take pictures of people. Until my brother was graduating high school and my mom asked if I could take his senior pictures. After that I was obsessed and started taking real clients.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have been very fortunate to have an amazing support group but I think the biggest challenge has been imposter syndrome when it comes to my work. We have probably all compared ourselves to others at some point and that can make things hard.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer who specializes in weddings and seniors. I feel like I am most known for my seniors / senior rep program. I am probably most proud of my senior reps. I love to watch them grown throughout their senior year and support them in any way I can. For my reps that are involved in sports I photograph their senior night games and I love how excited they get. I think what sets me apart is I truly care and think everyone deserves to have their special moments captures. Last year there was a senior who was pregnant that I met during a basketball game I was photographing and offered to gift her a maternity & newborn session. I didn’t want her to look back in 20 years and regret not having any pictures of that time in her life. Stuff like that is really important to me so I try to help people as much as I can.
What matters most to you?
Making sure everyone feels loved and has special moments to look back on. I want people to have memories that truly capture them. I just recently did a senior session a future theatre/music major and we put a piano in the middle of a field to make her senior picture dreams come true.
