Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Kovatch
Hi Jordan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I had moved out to Austin over a decade ago to pursue a life in the creative arts field. I was doing graphic design and wanted to start a clothing line. When I started screen printing, I fell in love with the art form. It’s meticulous, detailed, challenging and very rewarding. I began my journey in a sign printing shop printing thousands of yard signs. While not the most fulfilling printing, I learned the mechanics of printing and how to adjust to achieve the quality I sought out after. Over time I started a shirt printing business with my roommate and we destroyed his room with inks and cleaning supplies. I got my feet wet learning the ins and outs of printing on apparel at that time. Eventually I found a print shop that was hiring and I took my shot to become their printer. At the time they were small and I was barely working part time but kept asking for more responsibilities until I was completely handling everything myself. Over time I helped grow that company and it’s client base with high quality printing and unmatched customer service. After the pandemic, I decided to open my own shop which was a lifetime dream of mine. It was a struggle at first but I pushed onwards. I began slowly but over time the referral system landed me clients that I had always dreamed of working with. We currently work with a lot of tattoo artists, local bands, local bars and establishments, and will take on any project from all communities.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Owning a business is never a smooth road. Running a production shop there is always something that needs to be worked on. You have to adapt and learn, which has taught me how to rewire my machinery and the mechanics of my day to dey equipment. Our pipes have frozen and burst which helped me quickly learn how to do small plumbing tasks. As a business that works for other businesses, we are hit with everyone else’s slow seasons. When a client goes out of business or no longer needs merch, we have to scramble to find another account to help tip the scale. So far we have overcome all the obstacles we have faced.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I originally started working with a lot of tattoo artists and tattoo shops. This brings such a wide variety of options and styles that I had to adapt real quick to make sure everyone got exactly what they wanted. Working with other artists was always the goal and being able to communicate with them about printing helped grow the shop. My tagline is “Our business is customer service, we just print on the side!”. Where I excel is being able to handle all types of projects and people while giving them a comfortable experience. Knowing the ins and outs of the trade, I am able to help navigate people to the right products, printing and pricing.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Determination has been the most important part of my success. The drive to always achieve and become better than the day before. My biggest dream as a child was to own my own business and make all the rules. I didn’t think it was possible until I became determined to make it a reality. Some days are hard and some will cripple you, but if you are determined to succeed, those days become lessons in strength.
