Daily Inspiration: Meet Mallory Richardson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Richardson.

mallory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I began my modeling career in 2015 as I was participating in a plus size pageant, and met some people through my networks, I begin casting for runway showcases, submitting to online contests for brand representation roles and ultimately now model full time in commerical and print based here in Austin, TX. I began my journey traveling the east coast as I am from North Carolina. There weren’t any opportunities for plus sized people with interest in fashion or beauty industries within our state so I created it through my brand, Crusade of Curves. Between growing my modeling career, while producing this event, my network, social media visibility and community grew exponentially between 2017 – 2022. During COVID, I transitioned to Houston with my full time role as a luxury handbag assistant store manager and continued my efforts in modeling. About two years after my move, I was recruited to model for a Shop LC, a home shopping network from my instagram profile, then I actively sought representation and got signed with Brown Agency and Bolt Management. I have been thriving in my businesses as they are mainly online, or traveling with my production. Crusade of Curves will be in both L.A. and CLT in 2025 for our New Nostalgia Tour, I am growing my modeling and influencing daily by working with brands like Google Pixle, Whole Foods, Extended Stay, Belk, Covergirl and more!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have faced challenges throughout my journeys. Finances were once upon a time, the biggest of the trouble I experienced as a young, single homeowner needing to invest in my career start up, I had nowhere else to turn. I worked multiple jobs, pawn jewelry by way of loads and worked overtime to make sure I had the funds to get where I needed and purchase what I needed. Additionally, I took shortcuts to add additional funding to be reallocated to places I really needed to spend it. Cheap travel, driving and dollar menus were all apart of my story. I am proud of my sacrifices, would do it again as what is a true journey and story of success without challenges? Aside from that, learning who and who not to befriend and trust has also been an ongoing lesson learned and opportunity for me. You have to simply keep some people at bay. No title is always needed and expanding your faith based relationship helps, sometimes spirituality is more of what we need than the phone call we desire with someone who may or may not truly want to help and see you win.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a professional plus size model, brand and influencer. I produce events that focus on the plus size fashion, beauty and lifestyle spaces and curate experiences that last our attendees a lifetime. Crusade of Curves is an experience to be felt, shared, and grown as a result of attending. The connections we forge with the community are superior to any event I have ever attended, and that truly inspires me to continue my efforts. We celebrate 9 years in production this year, and cannot be more proud of the places and spaces we have created over the years, as lives have been changed. As a model, I enjoy being the plus size and woman of color representation, we need. As a Native American petite plus woman, that makes the journey that much more rewarding as neither of these populations receive the visibility they deserve. I look forward to making more strides for marginalized people in this industry as I continue to grow myself personally and as a brand/business.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Most people don’t know I have a musical background as an alto, I used to be a drill team stepper and dancer, plus I still practice traditional eastern woodland Native American beadwork and regalia dances in my free time. I additionally design interiors, exteriors and sets for commercial and print campaigns. Design and artistry is truly defining of who I am as a creator and self taught artist.
