Today we’d like to introduce you to Dor Korngold.
Hi Dor, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Dor Korngold, CEO and Founder of MOD BIKES. I was born and raised in Israel in a family of creators, and from a young age, I was constantly tinkering, building, and dreaming up new ideas. I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit—throwing parties, running coffee shops, doing custom construction work, and even DJing.
My journey in the electric bike world started over a decade ago when I began managing an e-bike shop in Israel. That store eventually grew into the largest e-bike franchise in the country, expanding from one location to 18 branches. During that time, I also started building my own bikes from parts I had access to and using them for my daily commute. That hands-on experience—combined with my background in running and scaling businesses—sparked the idea of creating my own brand.
I saw the potential of electric bikes in the U.S. and founded MOD BIKES in 2017. A year later, I moved to Austin to officially launch the company. Many of the bikes I built back in Israel laid the foundation for the models we sell today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely not been easy. Being an entrepreneur is tough—and coming from a different culture added another layer of complexity. There were (and still are) so many things I had to figure out on my own, from navigating unfamiliar systems to building a company from the ground up in a new country.
One of the biggest challenges has been figuring out people—how to hire the right team, how to support them in the right roles, and how to get them to stick around and grow with the company. That part is always evolving.
Running a business requires constant learning. I’ve done a lot of research, leaned on trusted mentors, and followed my gut when needed. But I’ve also learned that not all advice is right for you—you have to know how to gather information, analyze it, and decide what truly aligns with your vision.
From a product perspective, I still design all of our bikes myself. That process involves a ton of trial and error, learning new tools, and constantly pushing boundaries. I use everything the internet offers, and I stay curious and persistent. I don’t take no for an answer—even though I probably hear it a few times a day.
There’s a saying in Hindi: Sab kuchh mumkin hai—everything is possible. I really believe that. It all comes down to whether you believe you can figure it out or not
