Today we’d like to introduce you to Beysul.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been singing and developing an interest in choir since I was 5 years old. I grew up actively in my school choir, competing in regionals, and all-state, and I played a lead role in my high school musical, “Beauty and the Beast.” I loved to write poetry, play the piano by ear, and take up violin and ukulele.
Growing up, I never saw myself as a solo artist. I was quite shy when it came to my voice; I liked to blend in with the choir. I am competitive and have received many awards and accomplishments, which made my parents and family happy. The gratification that I was doing something well is what made me keep pushing myself.
In 2015 my mother was suddenly diagnosed with stage 4 stomach cancer, and a few months later passed away. This changed my entire world, I became very depressed and dropped out of my junior year of high school for a couple of months until my dad moved my brother and me from Dallas to Temple Texas. Here, he got a new job and I graduated my senior year of high school. This move gave us a new start and opened more opportunities for us. I used writing and singing to cope with our loss.
After having to rediscover myself and start over, I slowly rebuilt my confidence, I posted you tube covers of me singing and playing ukulele that got thousands of views. I even recorded my first original song on my iPhone on garage band. I played it for my dad who reached out to our old neighbor in Dallas, who knows the infamous brother produces PlayNSkillz and they heard it. This was the start of me regaining hope of a music career and in 2019 I took a chance to pursue the idea of recording original music, a dream I had postponed due to depression, and met my very first producer, and started developing my artist persona “Beysul”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
In the beginning phases of becoming an artist you can be misled or taken advantage of. I’ve been scammed, went through many producers to find my sound, not received songs on time or incomplete projects, paid hundreds of dollars for a feature from a bigger artist that didn’t even put effort into their verse etc. The music industry is a business, so you have to be prepared and financially ready to invest in your career. Investing doesn’t stop at finances; it’s as much of a physical and mental investment as well.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Pop/R&B singer known for my live performances, and classical music background. I’ve built a strong relationship with producers and artist throughout Texas, toured with local artists, worked on music with artists/producers such as ClefGod, GtGarza, GemCutterStudios performed at historical venues such as “Trees” in Dallas.
I make an effort to travel and make myself known, my strong work ethic and music style is what sets my apart from others.
My EP “Don’t Take This Personal” produced by Jamaal Anderson captures the essence of Beysul, showcasing my vocal range, diversity and message that I am not a force to be reckoned with.
How do you define success?
I would define success as not only accomplishing a goal, but it’s a feeling of knowing you are on the path to your higher purpose. This can be measured in different ways, we all have different levels and ideas of success. It is a personal journey.
