Today we’d like to introduce you to Judy Lane-Boyer.
Hi Judy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved stories—hearing them, telling them, and helping others shape their own. I started my professional journey as a language translator and academic researcher, but it wasn’t until later in life, after my own diagnosis of ADHD following years of battling anxiety and depression, that I truly understood the power of telling your story with honesty and clarity. That turning point deepened my compassion and sharpened my focus.
In 2021, I shifted into ghostwriting and coaching full-time, launching *Audience Granted* to help people—especially those in mental health, education, and personal development—share the messages that matter most. My clients include therapists, coaches, and everyday people with extraordinary life stories. Many of them have a calling to write a book but feel overwhelmed by the process. That’s where I come in. Whether through ghostwriting, developmental editing, or coaching, I guide them from ideas and rough drafts to clear, compelling manuscripts that reflect their heart and expertise.
It’s deeply rewarding work, and every project is a collaboration. I don’t just write—I listen, I teach, and I walk alongside clients as they give voice to their vision. I’m grateful every day to do work that aligns with my values and helps others be seen, heard, and understood.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—but it HAS been meaningful. Like many creatives and entrepreneurs, I’ve faced my share of uncertainty, especially in the early days of building a business. I started with strong writing skills and deep empathy, but very little experience with marketing, pricing, or client management. I’ve had projects fall through, clients ghost me, and moments where I questioned if I could really make a living doing this work.
On top of that, navigating ADHD while managing multiple projects, deadlines, and the demands of running a solo business can be overwhelming. I’ve had to create systems that support my brain—ones that honor how I work best without burning me out. That’s been a learning curve, but a valuable one.
What’s helped most is staying rooted in why I do this: to help people share stories that matter. Hiring a business coach gave me clarity, direction, and a huge boost in confidence. And networking—especially in local communities and with like-minded professionals—has opened doors I wouldn’t have found on my own. The relationships I’ve built through those connections have made all the difference, both professionally and personally.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in ghostwriting and developmental editing, focusing primarily on mental health and self-help topics.** I work with clients who have powerful personal stories or expert knowledge that they want to share with the world, helping them shape their ideas into clear, impactful narratives. My work often involves coaching mental health professionals, coaches, and individuals with transformative experiences to develop books that resonate with their audience and help make a difference in people’s lives.
In addition to my ghostwriting work, I’m also a writing coach for fiction, particularly in the fantasy genre. I help aspiring authors—whether they’re first-time writers or seasoned storytellers—navigate the complexities of world-building, character development, and plotting, all while staying true to their unique creative vision. Fantasy has always been a genre I’m passionate about, and I love helping writers bring their fantastical worlds and characters to life in a way that feels authentic and engaging.
What sets me apart is my ability to bridge both worlds: the structured, purposeful writing process needed for self-help books and the imaginative, free-flowing creativity required for fantasy fiction. My clients appreciate that I bring empathy, patience, and a deep understanding of both genres, tailoring my approach to the specific needs of each project.
I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built with my clients. I’m not just a service provider, but a partner in their creative journeys. Watching them grow as writers—whether in their self-help work or their fantasy novels—has been the most rewarding part of my career. I’m also building a community of fellow creatives, and I find that support and collaboration are key to staying inspired and motivated in both the business and creative sides of my work.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Something surprising that most people might not know about me is that I used to be a Spanish translator for law enforcement.** This experience not only sharpened my language skills but also gave me a unique perspective on communication and the power of words in high-stakes situations. It was a challenging and rewarding job, and it helped shape my ability to connect with people from all walks of life—something I bring to my work as a ghostwriter and coach.
Additionally, I’m a passionate traveler and have been to **17 countries across four continents**. The diversity of cultures, stories, and perspectives I’ve encountered on my travels has deeply influenced the way I approach writing, both as a creative and as a coach. I believe that travel broadens our understanding of the world and can unlock new depths of creativity.
