Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Harmon.
Hi Avery, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was always drawing and painting when I was young, and used to do makeup for my friends in high school. I never thought being a makeup artist was as job I could have! After graduating from UT Austin with a degree in Fashion Design, I decided to stay in Austin and was searching for a job. I could not find anything, but remembered how much I loved doing makeup when I was younger. I started working for a bridal makeup company and everything started falling into place, and it felt like that was what I was meant to do. I did so many test shoots for free and watched videos and even rented books from the library to learn everything I could about makeup. My business slowly built by word of mouth, and I was really busy after about 8 years of hard work!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building in the beginning was hard. After 2 years of doing so much free work and whatever would come my way, it didn’t feel like anything was happening, And then someone from maybe a year before would reach out, and things started to build from there. There are busy and slow seasons too, so I just have to be patient through the slow seasons
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a makeup artist, specializing in natural makeup and using makeup to enhance each individuals features. When I’m working with real women, it’s really rewarding to help them see the best version of themselves. Makeup can really help bring out someone’s personality and let it shine through. And make them a more confident version of themselves!
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I lived in Austin for almost 20 years before moving to Boerne with my family about a year and a half ago! I still travel back to Austin for clients, as well as seeing clients in San Antonio and the hill country.
