Today we’d like to introduce you to Jac Carson.
Hi Jac, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well well well Voyage Austin, it seems we’re back here again. Another round of interviews for my favorite self-fill questionnaire style Austin-Artist Specific magazine.
For those who haven’t read before, my name is Jac Carson, and I front a project called “Jac with No K”. (four words, one name, read it and write it out). I’ve been a full time musician in Austin for about 5 years now, cultivating a sound that’s a mix of alt-blues and Americana tunes, a style and band affectionately known as “New Texas Groove”. It’s been through about 1000 shows that I’ve gotten to where I am: a top tier smile with second tier talent making UPWARDS of $40/day 🙂
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say that aside from the late nights, constant feeling of rejection, fear of failure coupled with the intensity that comes from marrying your dreams and passion to your professional career that means if you fail you could be left with nothing but a husk of your former self, an unstable and unsuccessful love life, internal and external doubt (both vocalized and imagined), moving and living 2000 miles from my home and family, and the physical toll this life choice has taken on my body, I would say it’s been pretty smooth sailing. Wouldn’t change a thing 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Well, (mr robot), as stated previously, I front a project called “Jac with No K”, a near 8-year alt-blues musical endeavor that started in Philly. However, the last few years, my band has becoming something we call “New Texas Groove”, a style and live act that has been described as a “6th St E Street Band” and “One of the Most Entertaining Bands in Austin”.
WE DO have a new album coming out OCT 24th, our second album, “New Texas Two”, AND we have a release show OCT 24th at Saxon Pub
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Wealth. Gold and rare gems accumulated in a pile and stored in an ornate wooden chest at the foot of a throne, or perhaps in the sleeping clutches of a dragon.
