Meet Carlos Reyes of Reyes Performance Institute

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Reyes.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
How it Started: The Story Behind Reyes Performance Institute

Dr. Carlos Reyes founded Reyes Performance Institute with a clear mission: to redefine what physical therapy looks and feels like for athletes—and to make the highest level of care accessible to everyone.

As a lifelong athlete and former collegiate runner at the University of Texas, Dr. Reyes knows firsthand what it takes to perform at a high level—and how devastating it can be to be sidelined by injury. His own recovery journey gave him a deep empathy for the athletes he now treats and sparked a lifelong commitment to mastering the science of performance and recovery.

Over the course of his career, Dr. Reyes became increasingly frustrated with the traditional high-volume clinic model. He saw how real healing was compromised when patients became just numbers. He believed that true performance care demands time, attention, and precision—something he knew wasn’t negotiable if he wanted to deliver results at the level elite athletes expect.

Driven by that belief, he’s spent his career building something different: an institute that blends one-on-one, relationship-based care with cutting-edge technology and data-driven outcomes. From force plate testing to advanced screening tools, RPI mirrors the standards of pro-level athletic care—and brings that to everyone, not just the few.

Dr. Reyes continues to study, refine, and lead in this space—not because he has to, but because he believes people deserve better. His life’s passion is ensuring every active individual—from weekend warriors to competitive athletes—gets access to the same high-caliber care as the pros.

At Reyes Performance Institute, it’s not just about making you stronger—it’s about understanding your struggles, offering real answers, and guiding you back with the same level of care the elite receive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road—and honestly, I don’t think it’s supposed to be. Some of the biggest challenges came right at the start: having to tackle the fear of stepping out on my own and choosing to go against the traditional model of physical therapy. It’s one thing to believe in your vision; it’s another to trust yourself enough to build it from the ground up.

One of the hardest parts has been carving out space in an industry where loyalties with doctors, coaches, and trainers are often already tied to bigger, more established systems. Building trust and relationships when you’re offering something different—something more individualized and performance-focused—takes time, patience, and persistence.

Another major challenge has been learning how to run a business while still doing the work I love. As a clinician, my passion has always been in treating patients and advancing my knowledge. But launching a practice meant also becoming a marketer, a business manager, and an entrepreneur—roles I wasn’t necessarily trained for. Juggling all of that while trying to build a client base and expand my network was tough.

I was fortunate, though. Along the way, I had mentors and other physical therapists who had taken similar leaps and were willing to share their advice and experiences. Their support helped me navigate the growing pains and stay focused on the bigger picture. Every struggle taught me something—and looking back, I’m grateful for the lessons that came with the challenges.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Reyes Performance Institute, our mission is to enhance the physical and mental well-being of our clients by integrating state-of-the-art sports performance training with proactive recovery methods. We strive to help each individual achieve their highest potential in sports and everyday life.

What sets us apart is our commitment to combining cutting-edge technology with truly individualized attention. We use advanced tools like ForceDecks, Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) therapy, RacquetFit assessments, BlazePod and more to make evidence-based decisions about each client’s care plan. But we never lose sight of the human side of recovery—our philosophy is rooted just as much in mental resilience and genuine connection as it is in physical performance.

We’re known for giving clients real answers and real results. Whether it’s helping someone return to sport after ACL surgery, enhancing a pickleball player’s reaction time, or supporting a runner through a tough injury, we take pride in being a trusted, motivating partner throughout the journey.

One thing we’re really proud of is the community we’re building. At RPI, it’s not about churning through as many patients as possible—it’s about creating a space where people feel encouraged, cared for, and challenged to reach their highest potential.

If there’s one thing I want readers to know, it’s this: at Reyes Performance Institute, you don’t have to settle for average care. You deserve the best—and we’re here to deliver it.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
We’re always looking to connect with people who care about staying active and feeling their best. One of the easiest ways to support us is by following us on Instagram @reyes_performance_institute or sharing our name with anyone who might need physical therapy—we’d be honored to be part of their journey.

If you’re a gym owner, coach, or part of a community that values movement, we’d love to come out and host a free injury screening or workshop tailored to your group. We’ve done sessions on everything from shoulder pain in lifters to injury prevention for runners and pickleball players. Whether it’s in your gym, office, or at an event, we’re happy to meet people where they are—literally.

If you’re a fitness influencer who’s curious about what we do, send us a DM! We love having people check out the clinic, and we’re always down to collaborate with folks who share our passion for movement and recovery.

We also just signed our first pro athlete—Jack Munro, a professional pickleball player—and we’re super excited about it. If you’re a local or pro athlete looking for a performance and recovery partner, we’re always open to building something great together.

And of course, engaging with our content on social media or tagging a friend who could use some support goes a long way too.
