Hidden Gems: Meet Emily Martinez of Blooms By Meii

Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Martinez.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hi, I’m Emily — owner and florist behind Blooms By Meii!

This business actually started way back when I was a junior in high school. Before launching Blooms By Meii, I worked in the restaurant industry, where I really developed my communication and people skills. After a few not-so-great experiences in different workplaces, I decided I wanted to create something for me — something that worked around my schedule, especially with school.

I was inspired by my mom, who runs her own small business, Magic Clean, a residential and commercial cleaning company. Watching her hustle made me believe I could do the same. I wanted to build something that worked on my time.

So, fun fact — Blooms By Meii didn’t actually start with flowers. It began with chocolate-covered strawberries and treat boxes that I made and sold at my high school in Marble Falls. I’d walk into school with giant shopping bags filled with strawberry cups and sell them to classmates and students all over campus. I’ve always loved creating things that make people smile — and at first, those things just happened to be delicious.

About three months into my small business journey, I made my first flower arrangement. That one bouquet changed everything. Overnight, flowers became my best seller and quickly turned into my passion.

I specialize in a style of bouquet called Ramos Buchones, which are especially popular in the Hispanic community. Being Hispanic myself, I remember the first time I traveled with my parents to visit my grandma and relatives in Mexico . We’d walk through the local shopping plazas — the centros — and I’d get lost looking at the flower shops, packed with flowers all the way up to your neck. I’ll never forget how mesmerizing it was. That memory is a huge part of why I create the way I do today.

I never took a floral design class — everything I know is self-taught. But I’m always learning, always growing, and always ready to pick up new skills and techniques to serve all kinds of people and occasions.

What started as a fun side hustle quickly became something so much bigger. I started getting regular orders for birthdays, holidays, and special events. On Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, I’d be working out of my house and even my bedroom, surrounded by buckets of flowers, barely sleeping — but loving every second.

Eventually, I decided to go all in. I rebranded, opened a little shop right here in what we call the heart of the Hill Country — Marble Falls — and officially turned Blooms By Meii into what it is today: a floral business built on heart, hustle, and handmade arrangements that are as unique as the people receiving them.

Whether it’s a simple bouquet or a big event, I pour love into every arrangement. Blooms By Meii is more than a business — it’s a reflection of my journey, my culture, and the community that’s supported me from the beginning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Some of the struggles I’ve faced as a young business owner…

One of the biggest challenges has honestly just been being young. I started my business in high school, and by the time my senior year rolled around, I was balancing school and business — and sometimes, not very well. I’ll never forget Valentine’s Day that year. I completely overbooked myself. I had over 70 different orders, and it was just me — one girl, trying to do it all.

It got overwhelming fast. I had to ask my mom for permission to skip school for three days just so I could catch up and get everything done. Even with that extra time, I was stressed, exhausted, and honestly disappointed in how I handled it all. But I took that experience and used it to prepare better for the next big holiday. That lesson stuck with me.

Being young also meant I had no real experience running a real business. I worked from home and, like most teens, I also liked spending money — but once I opened my flower shop, everything changed. I had to grow up fast. I had to learn how to sign contracts, pay rent and bills, file taxes, manage money, and do my own bookkeeping. And let me tell you — none of that is fun as a teenager. But it was necessary. These are all things I had no previous experience with, and even now, I’m still learning and figuring things out.

The hardest part of all, though? Learning to trust myself. I took a huge leap of faith when I chose to move forward with my flower shop instead of going to college. For years, I told myself I’d be a nurse. It felt like a safe, stable path. But once I found my passion for floral design, everything changed. I knew deep down I wanted something different. Choosing this path — even when it felt scary — was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made, and it’s one I’ll never regret.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Blooms By Meii?
Blooms By Meii is more than just a flower shop — it’s a brand built on passion, culture, and creativity. Founded by a young Latina entrepreneur, our business started as a small high school hustle and has now grown into a full-service floral boutique located in the heart of the Hill Country — Marble Falls, Texas. We specialize in creating custom, hand-crafted flower arrangements for all occasions — from everyday bouquets to large-scale events — but what we’re best known for are our Ramos Buchones. These vibrant, full-bodied arrangements are a staple in Hispanic culture, and they reflect both my heritage and my love for dramatic, statement-making florals.

What sets Blooms By Meii apart is the heart behind every single arrangement. I didn’t come from a floral design background or attend any official training — everything I know, I taught myself. My work is inspired by my culture, my experiences, and the people I’ve met along the way. Each bouquet tells a story, and my goal is to create pieces that make people feel something — whether it’s joy, comfort, love, or celebration.

From the beginning, I’ve prioritized originality, quality, and intention. My shop isn’t about mass production — it’s about personalization and making each customer feel seen and valued. Whether it’s a last-minute “just because” bouquet or a luxury birthday surprise, my team and I go the extra mile to ensure that every detail feels special.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of how far Blooms By Meii has come. I started this business in my teenage bedroom with nothing but determination and a love for design. Today, I’m running a brick-and-mortar shop, serving my community, and continuing to grow as both a florist and a business owner. I’ve learned everything from scratch — from floral technique to business management — and even though I’m still learning, I’m proud to say that I’ve built something beautiful from the ground up.

For readers getting to know my brand, I want them to see Blooms By Meii as a space where creativity and culture come together. We offer custom floral arrangements, holiday specials, event packages, and more — always with a personal touch. Every order supports a small, woman-owned business, and every bouquet is made with genuine love and care. Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
As a young business owner and creative, I’m always looking for ways to grow — both personally and professionally. I didn’t take a traditional path into entrepreneurship or floral design, so I’ve leaned heavily on digital tools, self-education, and outside inspiration to help me do my best every day.

Social media has been one of my biggest resources — especially platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest. These platforms not only help me market my work and connect with new customers, but they’ve also been huge sources of creative inspiration. I follow florists from all over the world, and seeing their styles, techniques, and trends constantly sparks new ideas for my own arrangements. I also learned so much from YouTube — from how to build bouquets to how to set up a shop or price my services. Being self-taught, those free resources were essential in building both my confidence and my skills.

On the business side, I use tools like Canva for marketing materials, Square for sales and invoicing, and Google Calendar to manage bookings and deadlines — especially during busy seasons like Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day.

But beyond the tools and tutorials, one of my biggest sources of strength is my Catholic faith. Running a business at a young age can be overwhelming, and my faith helps keep me grounded. It reminds me to be patient with the process and to trust in something bigger than myself. I’ve had to learn how to let go of my own timelines and trust in God’s — especially when things don’t go as planned. I truly believe this path I’m on was placed in my heart for a reason, and that’s what gives me peace and motivation to keep going, even on the hard days.
