Rising Stars: Meet Jaime Chase of Hyde Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Chase.

Hi Jaime, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I found lifting at 23 years old, in my post-undergraduate “OH F*CK WHAT DO I DO NOW” period. Turns out, working in an office kind of sucks (at least for me). And also, you can’t just eat pasta and never move your body… if you want to feel good. In the midst of figuring out what kind of work I wanted to do, and how to build healthier habits, I studied for a personal training certification, so I could teach myself how to lift.

It felt incredible to be stronger, to feel capable! Progressing in the gym was immediately infectious, and I knew within a few months that I wanted to keep learning about this subject, and eventually help other people find the joy I found in the gym. From there, it was a lot of ups and downs, learning different lifting techniques, and eventually specializing and competing in Olympic weightlifting. As I became a serious strength athlete, I practiced and built my knowledge as a coach. After all said and done, I’ve lived and worked in gyms across several different states, earned a master’s degree in Sports Management, and finally started my own private training business, Chase | Strength, in 2019. I moved to Austin in the fall of 2019, to further build my business in our fit city!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest struggle was being gutsy enough to create my own business and work for myself. Becoming an independent business owner brings with it much more responsibility and risk. Further, it’s tough to stand out amongst a crowded field, to shine enough to connect with those potential clients who will be the best match and benefit most from my approach.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a personal trainer; a movement specialist! I’ve been training others for over a decade. At this point, my two favorite types of clients are on complete opposite ends of the spectrum- beginners and beat up athletes. I’m specifically passionate about helping women over 35 learn how to lift properly. Strength training correctly results in optimizing your time spent at the gym, prevents injury, is a highly engaging means to workout, and is essential to aging well. It’s an absolute joy to help women become more capable and discover new-found confidence within themselves.

Working with my beat up athletes- I love showing gym veterans that there is a smarter way to train. No, you don’t just “have a bad back”. No, you shouldn’t be lifting seven days a week. No, working out shouldn’t be causing pain! Did you know you can use lifting to decrease acute and chronic pain and improve posture? Corrective exercise (aka lifting with intent to improve specific movement pattern issues) typically eliminates or greatly reduces the aches and pains experienced lifters may have from lifting poorly or too frequently.

I’m most proud of my ability to help clients build a fitness regimen they are excited to do FOREVER, not just for the next month! My beginner clients learn how to include regular workouts and better food habits as permanent fixtures within their lives. My experienced lifters learn how to tweak their approach so they can keep at their goals in a more sustainable manner.

What matters most to you?
Living in a way that inspires joy. By creating a life in which my cup overflows, I vivaciously share my experience, encouraging others to improve their physical and mental health.
