Meet Alisha Dancy of Victorious Styles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alisha Dancy.

Alisha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
WOW! Such a loaded question; I will try my best to summarize. I have slain many giants throughout my 37 years of life, from childhood traumas to surviving sexual abuse, as well as depression and suicidal thoughts. However, in 2021, having to bury both parents 4 months apart (Father—April 2021, to COVID; Mother—August 2021, to cancer ) shifted my life completely. There are some blows that will knock the wind out of even the strongest warriors, and this for me was one of them on many different levels.

As a previous healthcare professional with 18+ years in the industry clinically and administratively, it equipped me to handle everything I would have to experience taking care of my mother during her battle with cancer and throughout her transitional phase. It was extremely hard, but God provided me the strength and the emotional fortitude to do so. I didn’t get that opportunity to do so for my dad, as it was very quick and unexpected.

Victorious Styles was birthed while navigating and healing from grief. I had lost my zeal for healthcare at the time, and being someone who believes in doing everything you do in excellence and the importance of being able to give 100% in everything you do, especially when it involves other people, I chose to resign from a major role at a major hospital and take time to process all that had taken place. Thank God for a great husband that pushed me to this decision. I didn’t know exactly what life would look like moving forward, but I did understand that things would never be the same.

During my healing journey, I thought often of my parents, how young they were, how they both desired to leave a lasting legacy, and how much more they still wanted to do but would never get the opportunity to do so, and I didn’t want that to be my story. As the firstborn to both of them and the only child they shared together, I started to feel a heavy obligation to build something that would solidify not only my mark on the earth but theirs as well.

I’ve always been creative with an entrepreneurial spirit. However, like most people, we choose to take the safe route and climb the corporate ladder versus taking the leaps of faith necessary to use our God-given gifts and thrive in our passions. I was born with an eye for quality coordination and a love for all things fashion! In high school, I was known for my dope outfits and “out of the box” looks. “Fly on a budget” is what I called it. LOL.

However, it wasn’t until Jan of 2023, during my hiatus from healthcare working as a personal stylist for Macy’s, that I realized that my love for fashion and desire to care for others could merge successfully. Fashion became the vehicle I used to help people heal from things deeper than what appeared on the surface. During my style sessions, I found myself not only coaching my clients on their attire and clothing choices but also on real-life issues such as grief, unresolved traumas, heartbreak, life pivots, etc. All the things I had either experienced or was currently working through myself. It became clear to me very quickly that I was carving out my own lane within this massive fashion industry that had nothing to do with vanity but everything to do with the beautification that starts inward and radiates outward.

I myself have had to find the tenacity to thrive forward despite extreme hardships. Victorious Styles was built on the foundation of that resilience, which is why my goal through my business is to be a light in the lives of others, helping them turn tragedy into triumph and defeat into victory, all while looking their absolute best.

Remember diamonds are formed under immense pressure and heat; if able to withstand the difficult process, they become rare, viewed as exceptional, shining with a brilliance that can no longer be dimmed or dulled!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a forerunner in anything almost guarantees that there will be challenges. If you’ve never seen it done before, that doesn’t disqualify you from being able to do it. It simply means that you may have to work harder, seek out the proper knowledge, and be willing to lay the foundation brick by brick in hopes of blazing the trail for the generations after you or even to inspire others to understand that with the proper amount of faith, belief, and work ethic, you can make what seems impossible possible.

Reopening the Victorious Styles Suite Boutique this past January is a testament to that. In June of 2023, at a career high point, I got sick and ended up in the hospital for a week fighting sepsis shock, which took an extreme toll on my health and body due to already being diagnosed with ITP, an autoimmune disorder that causes the body to destroy its own platelets. Needless to say, this was yet again another unexpected blow. I had to stop everything Victorious Styles for a moment; I no longer had my style suite and stylist contract through Macy’s. It took me about 3 full months to fully recover and get to a point where I was ready to re-establish myself and my brand.

All business owners and entrepreneurs know that 3 months or longer without any production can make or break a business still considered in the infancy stage. I ended up taking a job back in healthcare at Houston Methodist with a physician’s office at the end of 2023, and all of 2024, I worked Monday-Friday while pivoting and rebuilding the Victorious Styles brand. Thank God, I did well enough in the pivot to now have a beautiful new style suite in the heart of north Houston at the beautiful Vintage Park Shopping Center. I’m still learning as I go, but one thing is for sure: I am determined to thrive forward and scale my business upward.

As you know, we’re big fans of Victorious Styles. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
As an image consultant and personal stylist that believes that true beauty starts within, I work with my clients in many different facets. Whether they just need a look put together for a certain occasion, help with polishing their appearance, or a wardrobe revamp, or if they want to go on a journey of reinvention that requires several sessions so we can focus in on where they are and where they would like to be. Kind of like retail therapy without the buyer’s remorse!

I also retail perfumes, colognes, handbags, and clothing items. I have a network of collaborations with hairstylists, makeup artists, nail technicians, etc. to ensure that I can properly advise my clients in those areas as well.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
