Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Rubio.
Hi Jason, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started DJing when I was in high school. My brother and I bought some turntables and began collecting records and learning to DJ. I slowly bought equipment and began hosting my own events when I was 14. Surprisingly, I was able to rent out public places back then at age 14! 🙂
I continued doing events throughout high school and beyond. I continued doing this while in college because I loved the idea of getting paid to do what I loved. After I graduated from college and began a teaching career, I didn’t do events for a few years. I missed it and began doing it again in 2008, mostly at bars and nightclubs, and occasionally, at private events here and there.
Around 2012, I decided to focus more on private events. I noticed the private event scene lacked talented DJs who could bring the energy and feel of the bar and club scene. I decided to change that and started Austin’s Best DJs. I recruited the top talented DJs in the central Texas area and grew to where we are today.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been great overall. I learned early on to not take on too many events. In the early days we were doing over 300 events per year. I was exhausted. I learned that charging more and doing fewer events was the key to success.
Another challenge I faced was finding talented DJs who had a similar work ethic as mine was a challenge. So many DJs in the industry don’t treat DJing as seriously as they should. Yes, it’s a fun job, but a the end of the day, it’s a job that should be taken as seriously as every other job out there. Our team is solid now, but we had to let people go along the way.
I added additional entertainment options along the way, such as photo booths, lighting, photography, marquee letters, etc. Diversifying our options helped us to grow and stay busy throughout the year.
In 2021, I wrote and published my book “Succeeding in the Wedding & Events Business.” This book outlined my journey and obstacles and discusses how we went from a startup to a over six figures. I outlined the steps others can take to do the same.

We provide professional DJs, photo booths, lighting, and many other entertainment options for concerts, festivals, weddings, quinceañeras, proms, and events. What sets us apart is that our team consists of the top DJs in the Austin and central Texas area. Our DJs are well-known DJs in the area who have years of experience doing public and private events.
We have done major concerts and events with A-list celebrities, Formula 1, ACL, SXSW, and many of the festivals in the central Texas area. We have also worked with major brands such as Amazon, Samsung, Netflix, and numerous others for their events.
