Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabra Johnson.
Hi Sabra, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
BIO : Some call her a saint, but others call her a sinner! Hailing from Austin, TX, Sabra Saint Sin is a published model, actor, and producer of Her Sins Burlesque & Cabaret. You can find this Playboy Bunny on billboards and gracing the covers of Car Culture Deluxe, Sinical, Bachelor Pad, Vogue Italia, and many more! This award-winning and multi-talented artist keeps busy by traveling the US to perform for an array of shows and clients, such as Christian Louboutin, and her acting can be seen in several films, including Robert Rodriguez’s series From Dusk Till Dawn and MTV.
BACK HISTORY : I started performing at the young age of 9 years old in acting and pageants, appearing in many shows on A&E, Disney, Entertainment Tonight, Extra Extra, CMT, Dr. Phil, a production with Courtney Cox and David Arquette and then eventually landing a spot on a reality show hosted by MTV called ‘Tiara Girls’ that followed me around my high school. Once I turned 18, I used everything I learned in showbiz and performing to start a career in fashion/lingerie that quickly led to my education in Burlesque! From there, I hit the ground running, invested in several large tribute props such as my giant martini glass, and later created a touring troupe of performers who are known as Her Sins Burlesque and Cabaret!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Showbiz is rewarding but always hard work! The long hours of rehearsals/show days, costuming/fittings, and travel, all while trying to supplement funding for your next project, are not for the faint of heart, but when it does pay off, that feeling of achievement is unbeatable, and is why I do what I do!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Burlesque with a troupe I formed called Her Sins Burlesque & Cabaret! Even though I’m very proud of my journey in this craft, they are what I’m most proud of! Seeing a group of performers start from the ground up and now soar through a community and succeed is very emotionally rewarding. It also ensures that the art of Burlesque lives on to younger generations!
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Being a full-time performer is always a risk. When you make a living outside the social norm, you have to stay on top of your career. Which means constantly looking for your next booking or gig and staying connected in a community where you can produce and receive active support in what you do! Also, presenting anything artistic or creative is a risk, you put in so much work, time, and effort for someone else to behold and enjoy it. However, the trick is doing it with passion because no matter what someone else thinks of the finished product, in the end, you did it exactly as you intended and achieved your goal!
