Hidden Gems: Meet Deanna Dailey of Dailey Hair Designs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Deanna Dailey.

Hi Deanna , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have been a stylist for almost 20 years. I always loved cutting and styling my barbies as a young child, so I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry. I am also the baby of 8 children who grew up on a farm here in central texas and my mom wasn’t the best at styling our hair. We usually had “at-home” cuts and perms done on us and that pushed me to want to have better hair later in life lol. I originally went to college for a fashion merchandising degree but while in school I got the chance to help out on some photo shoots and that is when I realized that the hair/makeup portion was what I really wanted to pursue.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not always. I have had many jobs in many different types of salons through my career, some with great mentors and bosses and some with not so great. I left the industry full-time for a few years to finish my bachelor’s in marketing management and work in marketing for the alcohol industry. I had a few years of rough patches in life that lead me away from the industry, as I needed to be around more for my family. I lost both of my parents in a 3 year span and the economy took a toll on my finances, so I decided to take on career roles that would enable me to be around home more and make more stable money but my true passion for the industry brought me back full-time 6 years ago and I haven’t stopped working hard to achieve my dreams of owning a full staffed salon since then.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Right now I am a small two station studio in pflugerville. We are in the works for opening a medium sized 6 to 8 station salon next year. I am a custom color and fashion color specialist. I love taking on new challenges like color corrections or very creative color. As many of our clients say, we are a hidden gem. We create and execute amazing color like you would expect from any high end downtown salon but have a super cute and comfortable neighborhood space for a reasonable price. We are known for having a comfortable space for any type of woman from any walk of life and we truly listen and care for our clients.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I have to give credit to my parents who always supported me and my dreams in the hair industry. I have to give credit to my loving husband and 2 wonderful children who always have my back. I also owe a huge part of my success the past few years and future success to my partner/suite mate, Mckenna Slabaugh, who has helped teach me the business side of the industry along with supporting our dream together and being that shoulder to cry, laugh, and create with.
