Today we’d like to introduce you to Shayla Vidal.
Hi Shayla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I always dreamed of owning a party rental company. My parents threw huge parties for me and my siblings when we were younger, which I believe impacted me as an adult to share the joy and love they gave me with others. In my corporate job, I coordinated events and birthday parties, and I loved seeing the joy it brought to my colleagues. After learning that not everyone had a birthday celebration, I was glad to give that kind of recognition in the workplace. After buying my first home in 2021, I needed extra income due to increased living expenses for my four boys. I found a party rental business on TikTok that inspired me to follow my dreams. I launched my business with minimal funds – just one paycheck and faith. Anthony, the owner of Get Bouncy, a bounce house company, mentored me, and my husband Derrick supported me throughout the process. Working long, late-night hours while running a full-time business was hard, but we pushed through it. Four years later, working only two days a week, my business now surpasses my corporate salary. I successfully built my company through perseverance and building trust with clients. I hope to one day open my own venue to host all events.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As the first Black-owned luxury Soft Play business in San Antonio, Texas, I’ve faced unique challenges. Overcoming stereotypes was a hurdle, with clients surprised to see a black woman in the bounce house industry, typically dominated by men. The physical demands were intense, but my children’s needs and love for the party rental industry kept me going. Family support, particularly from my parents, Lolita and Tony gave me strength. Starting a business is tough, but defying expectations and staying confident despite doubts requires perseverance. Consistency has been vital to my success.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Owning a luxury’s party rental business is a roller-coaster ride. I am to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for kids at events with luxury and modern rentals. I have expanded my business to a luxury snack cart business called Magical spin. I loved expanding my business, even more than what I’ve dreamed.I cherish working with families and seeing children grow up. Their loyalty and repeat Dream
Entertainment clients drive me to be my best. I’ve made lasting friendships with vendors. I’m proud my children see me build a business, proving to them that they can achieve anything. With God everything is possible.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
When starting my business, I found joining groups with others in the same business to be a great resource. Facebook’s bounce house and soft play area groups are highly recommended for asking questions and learning from others freely.
