We recently had the chance to connect with Frank Moses and have shared our conversation below.
Frank, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity, without integrity intelligence and energy don’t mean much. Integrity is the compass that gives direction to intelligence and energy. Without it, intelligence can become manipulation, and energy can become recklessness.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by the name Frank Moses, and I’m the founder and lead producer at N.I.P. Productions, an Austin-based music production company. I specialize in sound design, collaborating with recording artists in hip-hop, pop, and R&B to bring their creative visions to life—whether in live studio sessions or remotely with clients around the world. I work closely with artists to craft the perfect sonic backdrop for their lyrics, guided by their input, emotions, and creative direction. My role is to contribute both creatively and technically, helping them achieve exactly what they hear in their heads. Over the years, I’ve worked with incredible talent including local artists Jackie Venson, Y2, and Phranchyze, and I’ve served as in-house producer for Kydd Jones for several years.
Beyond artist projects, I also create original music for sync opportunities, placing tracks in TV, film, and video games. For me, it’s not just about making beats—it’s about building something that will move people both physically and emotionally.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
When I was a child, I believed certain things were only attainable for certain people. Today, I understand that most things are within reach for most people but many never take action. Even a little action goes a long way compared to none at all. Spend just 15 minutes a day learning guitar, and in a month you’ll be ahead of anyone who never picked it up. Action also compounds over time, and the results can grow exponentially depending on the amount and quality of effort you put in.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
All the time—honestly, I feel like giving up right now. I’m joking, but the truth is that feeling is something most creatives wrestle with regularly. When it hits, I remind myself that time is limited, and eventually, we all have to give it all up. One day, we won’t get to choose. Until then, I say give it everything you’ve got—because why not?
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, but I’d say the public mostly sees the business version of me. Some people get the social version, my kids get the father version, and my clients get the creative version. It’s all still me, just different sides that come out depending on the moment.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I was definitely born for this. No one told me to become a producer—in fact, people told me not to. I started producing before the days of YouTube, when you couldn’t just binge tutorials to learn the craft. Back then, there was a real cost of entry: you needed access to equipment and to people who could show you how to use it. The industry was more competitive than collaborative, and most producers guarded their secrets, nobody wanted you to have ‘their’ sound. You really had to want it for yourself. It wasn’t like sports, where you have a coach pushing you, or a job with organizational goals. In this work, you set your own goals, and you can decide if they’re worth chasing.
