Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Wood.
Erin, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve loved weddings for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, my favorite make-believe games were imitating weddings. I would dress up my girlfriends in thrifted wedding dresses and high heels, decorate the house with Dollar Tree finds I bought with my report card money, and imagine the magic of those big days. Even then, it wasn’t just about the dresses or decorations—it was about doing something special for other people and bringing everyone together. That love never left me.
I was blessed to grow up in a Christian household where loving and serving others well was at the forefront. My mother and grandmother never met a stranger, and there was nothing they wouldn’t do for the people around them. Watching their example instilled in me the desire to live the same way, and to build a life rooted in faith, hospitality, and service.
When I went to The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ’Em!), I pursued a degree in Advertising because of my love for creativity and storytelling. While there, I also founded a Christian sorority, which became one of the most defining experiences of my life. Building that community taught me how to lead with heart, how to create spaces where women felt seen and celebrated, and how events could be about so much more than logistics—they could be moments of unity, encouragement, and joy.
After graduation, I went into the corporate world as an account manager and media planner. The skills I gained there—organization, communication, and problem solving—were invaluable, but deep down I knew I was called to something more personal and service-driven. Weddings had always been my dream, and in 2024, I finally took the leap, leaving my 9-5 to launch Bread & Butter Events Co.
The name came from the belief that weddings and events are the bread and butter of life—they’re what nourish us, bring us together, and remind us of what matters most. Today, I get to live out my faith by serving couples in one of the most meaningful seasons of their lives. Bread & Butter is more than a business to me—it’s a calling, and I consider it the greatest honor to help create joy-filled, stress-free celebrations that couples will remember forever.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not a smooth road—but I think the bumps along the way are what have shaped me most. Starting a business in your early twenties is both exciting and intimidating. Leaving the stability of a 9-5 job to chase a dream meant stepping into a season of uncertainty where there wasn’t a handbook or guaranteed paycheck. I had to learn everything from contracts to taxes to building vendor relationships, all while trying to grow my client base and prove my value as a planner and designer.
There were moments of doubt, times when I wondered if couples would trust someone my age, or if I was “qualified” enough to do this. I also had to figure out how to balance my desire to give 110% to every client with the reality of building sustainable systems and boundaries. Like most entrepreneurs, I’ve faced long nights, unexpected challenges, and the weight of wearing every hat in my business.
On top of that, I just got married myself in July 2024, which brought its own set of challenges (and joys!). Planning my own wedding while running a business and serving other brides at the same time was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. It stretched me thin at times, but it also gave me a brand-new perspective. I understand on an even deeper level now what my couples are walking through—the stress, the emotions, the endless decisions—because I’ve been right there myself. And that has made me an even better planner.
Through it all, my faith has grounded me. I’ve seen firsthand how God provides—whether it’s sending the right clients, opening doors I never expected, or giving me peace in the middle of the overwhelm. Every challenge has taught me resilience, patience, and how to lean into my calling with confidence. Looking back, I can see that none of the struggles were wasted—they’ve all been stepping stones to where Bread & Butter is today.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bread & Butter Events Co. is my dream come to life—a wedding and event planning company built on creativity, service, and a whole lot of heart. We specialize in full-service planning and design, partial planning, and month-of coordination, but what makes us unique is that we don’t stop there. We’ve also expanded into floral design, custom signage, and even bachelorette weekend planning, because I believe couples deserve a one-stop experience that feels cohesive and personal. From “yes” to “I do,” we serve couples through every stage of the journey.
At Bread & Butter, we believe weddings should be more than just a pretty day—they should feel like you. That’s why I spend so much time getting to know each couple’s story, style, and priorities. From custom mood boards and color palettes to managing timelines and vendor teams, I make sure the planning process feels seamless and stress-free, so couples can actually enjoy their engagement season instead of feeling weighed down by it.
What sets us apart is the way we blend joyful creativity with intentional hospitality. Our brand is playful and approachable (we like to say serving weddings is our jam), but at the same time, everything we do is deeply rooted in faith and service. I truly see this work as a calling—an opportunity to love people well and to create moments that will stay with them forever.
Brand-wise, I’m proud that Bread & Butter has developed such a strong identity. It’s fun, memorable, and a little cheeky, but it’s also deeply personal. I want people to feel welcomed the second they interact with us—like they’re already part of the family. Weddings are one of life’s most meaningful celebrations, and it’s an honor to serve them up with excellence, joy, and a Texas-sized dose of love.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that usually surprises people is just how long weddings have been part of my story. Most people see Bread & Butter Events Co. as a business I launched in my twenties, but in reality, I’ve been “planning weddings” since I was about seven years old. I used to save up my report card money, buy Dollar Tree decorations, and transform our living room into a wedding venue. My friends would dress up in thrift-store wedding gowns and high heels, and I’d orchestrate full ceremonies like it was the most important event in the world. Looking back, it feels like God was preparing me even then for the work I get to do today.
Another thing that surprises people is that I actually founded a Christian sorority during my time at The University of Texas at Austin. That experience of building community, creating events, and leading with faith has shaped a significant part of who I am as a business owner. It taught me that leadership isn’t about the spotlight—it’s about serving others and creating spaces where people feel loved and cared for.
And on a more personal note: I just got married myself in 2024, so now I not only plan weddings, but I’ve also been in the shoes of the bride. Going through the engagement and wedding process firsthand has given me a completely new perspective—and I think it’s made me a better planner. I know the joy, the nerves, the stress, and the magic in a much deeper way, and I carry that into how I serve my couples today.
