We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chez Mcgavock . Check out our conversation below.
Hi Chez, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
I hosted an event called Riverside Vibes in Austin. The purpose of the event was to create a space where people could unplug from their screens, touch real grass, and connect with others in person. It was about building community, sharing good vibes, and reminding ourselves how refreshing real-life connection can be.
People traveled from Houston and even as far as Pittsburgh just to be there, which meant so much.
It was a beautiful reminder that when you create the right environment—filled with music, good food, and open energy—people will come together in ways that leave lasting memories. That’s what this event was really about.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Chez McGavock, founder of Canna Town—a cannabis-inspired apparel brand that celebrates local pride, the plant, and community. We make everyday wear—tees, hoodies, hats and accessories—that let people rep their city and their lifestyle with style and good energy.
What makes us different is the culture we build around the clothes. Canna Town is a vibe: inclusive, friendly, and rooted in Texas (Houston → Austin). We host laid-back community meetups (think blankets by the water, good music, and BYOV), spotlight creators and small businesses, and keep our brand aligned with positive causes—regularly donating a portion of sales to non-profits (from heart-health and ALS to minority mental health awareness).
On the product side, we focus on comfortable fabrics, clean graphics, and small-batch drops so designs feel special. We’re growing into wholesale with a lookbook and line sheets for retailers, and we love collaborating with artists, shops, and events that share our values.
If you rock Canna Town, you’re saying: I love my city, I respect the plant, and I show up for my community. That’s the story we’re building—and we’re just getting started.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
That I really needed college to be successful. Now that Im older I understand that the meaning of success is by perspective. I do believe college is needed in specific instances. But to me success falls in leaving your mark here on earth so that when your gone your legacy lives forever.
Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
I really miss my Granny, she passed over 10yrs ago but sometimes I wish she was here in the physical to be a part of all the things I’ve accomplished. I know she is looking over me.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. Is the public version of you the real you?
100% I’m just a guy that really loves life, I try to live in the present and be grateful of all the blessings I have been given and will continue to get.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What do you think people will most misunderstand about your legacy?
I did it my way and didn’t let anyone else use my pen to write my story.
