An Inspired Chat with Angie Wheeler of Lakeway

We recently had the chance to connect with Angie Wheeler and have shared our conversation below.

Angie, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
Independence.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Angie Wheeler, the owner of Lake Travis Laser Skincare & Aesthetics and a Licensed Laser Technician and Medical Aesthetician here in the Austin area. I’ve always been passionate about helping people feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, and that’s really what sparked the idea for Lake Travis Laser.

What makes our space special is the balance we’ve created between advanced, medical-grade treatments and a warm, personal experience. We offer everything from laser skin rejuvenation and tattoo removal to custom facials and skincare treatments, but what I love most is getting to know each client and tailoring everything to their unique needs.

For me, it’s not just about treatments—it’s about transformation. Watching someone’s confidence grow as their skin changes is incredibly rewarding. Right now, I’m excited to keep expanding our services with the latest non-invasive technologies while maintaining the intimate, welcoming vibe our clients

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child growing up in a small town, I believed that my opportunities and identity were defined by the environment around me. I thought my path would always stay close to home and within the limits of what was familiar.

That perspective shifted when I made the decision to move across the country to a larger city. The experience challenged me to step outside my comfort zone and showed me that my potential isn’t tied to geography—it’s shaped by mindset and courage.

Today, I no longer see myself as limited by where I started but empowered by it. My small-town roots gave me grounding, but what I’ve really learned along the way is that growth often comes from embracing the unknown, having confidence and creating your own path.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
The last time I changed my mind about something important was when I realized the career I had built in education no longer aligned with the life I envisioned for myself. For years, I believed that staying in a stable, traditional profession was the responsible choice. But over time, I recognized that my true passion was in aesthetics—helping people feel confident in their own skin and creating experiences that blend science, artistry, and care.

Making the decision to transition from education to aesthetics required me to rethink what success meant to me. It taught me that changing your mind isn’t about giving up on a path—it’s about having the courage to pivot toward what truly fulfills you. That shift has shaped not only my career but also the way I approach growth and opportunity in every aspect of my life

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the industry tells itself is that results are only skin-deep. The truth is, medical aesthetics is about much more than the surface—it’s about confidence, self-care, and the ripple effect that happens when someone feels comfortable in their own skin.

Another misconception is that ‘one-size-fits-all’ treatments can deliver the same outcome for everyone. Every face, every skin type, and every story is unique, and approaching aesthetics without personalization overlooks what makes this field both a science and an art.

Lastly, the industry often sells the idea of instant, perfect results. Real, lasting change takes time, education, and consistency. My approach is grounded in honesty: empowering clients with realistic expectations and sustainable solutions so they can invest in their skin for the long term.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people will say that my story was one of passion and purpose—that I poured my heart into my profession and built something meaningful from the ground up. I want to be remembered as someone who didn’t just create a brand, but a space where people felt cared for, comfortable and empowered in their own skin.

Building my business was never just about services; it was about setting a standard for excellence and creating an experience that reflected my commitment to both science and artistry in aesthetics. I hope the story told about me is that I had the courage to follow my passion, the determination to lock in and build my vision, and the heart to make a lasting impact on every client who trusted me with their care.
