Today we’d like to introduce you to ElizaBeth Jones.
Hi ElizaBeth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started eB Stickers and Designs in 2014. The idea came to me as I was sitting on MOPAC in traffic and I saw a funny bumper sticker. I thought my commute would be a lot better if more cars had funny stickers on them. That got me thinking about how hard would it be to make them myself and sell them online. I got started and did ok on my own and then eventually started selling on Etsy which gave me a lot more exposure and the ability to make custom stickers. Over the years, I have been able to add on other products like magnets, keychains, bags, and coasters. For me, it is a creative outlet, a way for me to share my love for quotes and sarcasm.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The first year was a real struggle to get my business name out there. Starting to sell on Etsy and Amazon was a game changer for me as far as marketing. I was finally able to gain some traction and make a profit. Things were good for several years and I was at a comfortable balance between my business and my full time job. I then had a baby and it was hard for me to balance everything so I put my business on hold for a few years. In hindsight, I wish I just scaled back instead of pausing completely because my climb back to where I was has been hard. Social Media is different, Etsy is now saturated so I felt for a while that this wasn’t worth the struggle. It seems though every time I feel like giving up, I get another boost in my business, more engagements, more followers, more sales and it keeps me going. In the end I love this business and want it to do well. I also like to use it in my classroom, as I teach Entrepreneurship to high school students so everything I go through I use as examples.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I started with bumper stickers and then added decals and magnets of the same design. I also do laptop stickers which allows for more creativity and color. Recently, I have added a heat press so I have now added tote bags, coasters and key chains to my product lines. I also do custom work, which is my favorite thing to do. It really allows me to get to know my customers. They are so unique and funny, and it also gives me a pulse on what people are thinking and feeling to know what else I should offer.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I have several friends who also have their own business and I have found that going over with them different challenges has really helped me work through some of my own challenges. This has also given me some ideas about branching out and doing some trade shows later this year and possibly add a booth at a consignment shop. They have also helped in dealing with the down times, when I was just ready to throw in the towel, they gave me encouragement to keep going.
