Meet Cecily Sailer of South Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cecily Sailer.

Hi Cecily, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
After working in creative arts nonprofits for a decade, I moved into my own creative work full-time in 2022. By that point, I’d been playing with and building a side-hustle business called Typewriter Tarot, which I started after a powerful encounter with a Tarot deck and giving an impromptu reading to my sister.

I was taken with Tarot as a storytelling technology, and it seemed so helpful and interesting to me as a someone who’d studied and practiced writing formally for most of my life.

I started to blend creativity and writing into Typewriter Tarot — going beyond just Tarot readings for private clients and events. This blossomed into workshops and a learning community.

I kept going from there, basically drawing on everything I’d done so far in my career (including book coaching) to start offering creativity coaching and mentorship.

I specialize in helping creatives relate to their creativity in more fulfilling, joyful, and purposeful ways (without perpetuating all the toxicity of capitalism — perfectionism, productivity, and profit-first thinking).

At this point, I’ve helped hundreds of Creative Spirits (as I call them) reframe and revitalize their relationship to Creativity and share their art with the world in ways that feel authentic and rewarding.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s challenging to know, at times, whether I’m moving in the right direction when I’m making it all up as I go. But the beauty of working for yourself as a creative person is that your enterprise becomes a vehicle for your creativity — you get to make it how you want it. But this also means we don’t have role models to follow who’ve walked our same path.

It’s been challenging but rewarding to work with the money-side of things and find my own approach to selling, building community, and keeping my work sustainable.

I’ve gone through down periods and also surprised myself multiple times. It’s so rewarding to feel called to the work, to focus on relationships, and to help people with something that, in my opinion, doesn’t get enough attention and care.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I offer creative mentorship and coaching to help people relate to creativity differently, through a more holistic and mystical lens, while also tending to the practical side — the process and the purpose of the creative effort.

I host a learning community called the Creative Magic Collective — it’s a nonlinear learning space for Creative Spirits where we’re learning and practicing divination, expanding our knowledge of mysticism, and nurturing and celebrating our creativity.

I also have a workbook called Tarot for Creative Spirits, which includes journaling and creative prompts for every card in the Tarot. I host a podcast called Your Creative & Magical Life, which explores the intersections of Tarot, creativity, and making art in modern times. And I offer Tarot readings as well.

Any big plans?
I’m looking forward to growing my community, continuing to teach around creativity, astrology, and Tarot, and how they intersect (something I also write about). I look forward to becoming the go-to creative witch for artists and makers seeking to make their best work, find their biggest fans, and move through the evolutions and growth that creativity provide.

I’m always looking forward to working with new Creative Spirits, and watching my clients experience breakthroughs and transformations in their practice and their art.

No big changes right now… just a deepening and refining!
