Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Samson.
Andrea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was always passionate about art—drawing, painting, and coloring. But I never thought those skills would lead me to run a baking business. I only baked for my kids. My passion for the visual arts found a new medium when I discovered cookie decorating, realizing I could use my skills on a tiny, edible canvas.
Everything changed when I saw an ad for decorating cookies. It was an immediate spark that showed me my new direction. These tiny, edible canvases perfectly mixed my passion for art with a product people loved. I signed up for an online course, dove right in, and quickly fell in love with the precision and creativity of cookie art. My husband trusted and supported me along the way. His encouragement helped me to continue and grow.
My real start came with my first order: Powerpuff Girls-themed cookies. I was terrified, but I accepted the challenge. The cookies weren’t perfect, but when the kind customer hugged me as I handed over the box, that moment of appreciation solidified my path.
From then on, I was driven. I took every order as a chance to practice and get better. I got a huge break when a customer, who ordered for a beauty store, gave me total creative freedom to design their client giveaway cookies. This became my perfect training ground, allowing me to build my skills and my portfolio quickly. As I grew, I added cupcakes and custom cakes, taking new online classes to master each one.
I learned that my biggest growth engine wasn’t social media likes or joining big markets. It was trust. My success is built on word-of-mouth recommendations from customers who experienced my commitment to quality and artistry.
Today, custom cookies are still my bestseller, and my calendar is full every single week. My small dream, fueled by a love for art and customer loyalty, has become a thriving, booked-out business built entirely on passion and trust.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My business journey was not an overnight success. I posted constantly on social media but had no orders and mounting expenses. Finding the right product niche in a saturated market of bakers was a significant hurdle. My business finally changed when I realized that making cookies was more than just a business—it was my passion and my way to de-stress.
With two small kids, my biggest challenge was balancing time, often forcing me to work through the night. My kitchen became a lab of constant practice, and I learned to improve my skills by enrolling myself to different online courses. I also learned that not every follower supports you; some are just waiting for you to fail.
Every struggle—the lack of sales, the exhaustion, the time management—taught me the key ingredients for success: how to manage time, who to trust, and how to value every customer. These hard lessons created the foundation my business stands on today.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I offer custom cookies, cupcakes, and cakes, my custom cookies are my top seller. I don’t just bake them—I treat them as miniature, hand-drawn canvases, turning simple ingredients into refined, edible art.
What sets my work apart is that everything is crafted by hand with precision and care. I welcome every order, no matter the challenge, because it pushes my artistry further. Taking on challenging, intricate orders is how I learn and grow, ensuring my skills are constantly improving. Ultimately, my products are defined by the personal touch.
How do you think about happiness?
My greatest satisfaction isn’t just in finishing an order, but in knowing the work I create is an integral part of someone’s special day. It truly makes me happy when customers appreciate my work, because it means I get to add joy and color to their celebrations.
I am honored to feel like a small part of their most cherished memories. This feeling is amplified when customers take the time to share their appreciation. Those good feedbacks are more than just compliments; they are the fuel that pushes me every single day to refine my craft and continue sharing edible art with everyone.
