Meet Lauren Little of Austin Relational Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Little.

Hi Lauren, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Absolutely! My name is Lauren Little, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate here in Texas. Counseling is my second career after a ten-year stint working as a pediatric nurse. I primarily worked in oncology, where I witnessed how chronic illness and loss can ripple through an entire family system and community. It was also through my own family’s experience with loss, I came to see how grief can be both deeply personal and yet profoundly universal.

As the years passed, I realized that what I loved most about my work wasn’t just the medical side, but the deep human connection. I was privileged to be able to sit with families in some of their hardest moments and help them feel emotionally supported. Yet, as a nurse, there was rarely enough time for those deeper conversations, and I didn’t get to see how the family was doing months or years post the treatment.

That realization, along with my own positive experience in therapy, led me to explore counseling more intentionally. I spent a year reading psychology books, reflecting, and eventually decided to take the leap into graduate school.

During my training, I discovered a particular passion for working with couples. Having been in a long-term relationship myself, I understand how easy it is to get caught in familiar patterns and how vulnerable it can feel to ask for what we truly need. Helping couples slow down, understand those patterns, and rebuild connection has become some of the most rewarding work I do.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Of course not…and I say that as a counselor who’s trained to hold the both/and of life’s experiences. The journey has included its share of loss and unexpected turns. My husband and I left our family in Kansas City after working as travel nurses around the country, and when COVID hit, my plan to return to school there was suddenly upended. I also questioned my own intuition of changing up a career I felt seasoned in. It felt unraveling along with all the other changes. We relocated to Austin and had to find new work and a new graduate program. During that time, we lost my father-in-law unexpectedly, I faced some medical challenges, and we welcomed our daughter into the world. She’s absolutely the best part, but as any parent knows, babies aren’t exactly known for keeping stress levels low.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Austin Relaitonal Wellness?
